Because its traded on the market, you can turn on cnbc and watch the ticker to see how the market is today, dont look at the barrel price because that really has nothing to do with todays pump price look at the ticker that says GAS (technically it should be RBOB but cnbc put it in simple terms)

Do you have any grocery stores/costco/sams club type places near you to compete? Does that hurt you a lot?
Yes, bring some crab cakes with you and were even lol

No I actually smash there prices, and sell more gas than both the BJ's that sell gas on Long Island.

I'm curious as to why gas in my town is .20-.30 higher a gallon than the town I work in that is just 25 miles away. It's almost always a consistent jump in price and I've heard that they all buy their gas from the same people.

When price goes up, I go up slower than all my competitors to keep my volume up, when its going down I go down quicker to keep my volume up. Were run high volume establishments. My flag ship store averages 330,000 gallons a month.

Are they branded or independent? because that makes a big difference in pricing. Also some people have different strategies in business. Some guys like to sell a little but work on a high markup, guys like me work on a lower markup but sell a **** ton of gas. Also neighborhood demographics make a difference in prices as well.

1. What is the reason? Other than some gas overflow, I don't see why this convenient little lever was removed.
2. What is the best device that you know of than can keep the handle/pump fully engaged. Don't say the gas cap, its attached to car and works like shiit lol
Where do you get gas? All the ones I visit regularly still offer this feature.

Father was the second Turkish person in the tristate to own gas stations. Fast forward 7/10 gas station properties are owned by Turks, grew up in the business and learned from the best. He's been retired awhile now.

Do you ever lose money on gas to stay competitive? I know a big retailer that will lose a few cents a gallon certain times to stay competitive. They also about 600000 gallons a month I think. But sometimes they will lose on premium others on regular for a day or so.

I can speak for NY gas stations, but that lever is illegal for self service gas stations, but legal for full service gas stations. The DEC actually bust balls about that too.

I guess the govt thinks thats dangerous, and for the most park people use there gas caps to hold the trigger.

What happens when there's a line of about 10 or 20 cars. Then prices switch half way through the line?
Do the people in the back half of the line who get shafted ever get mad? I've always wondered this.

I had a gas war here last september, if your from LI im sure you heard about it on the news. I was in all the news papers, local news channels, radio stations. Lines were up and down the block 24 hours a day, local pd posted up a cruiser to help traffic and thwart fights. I lost $85k in a matter of 19 days. But after that my volume never dropped below 320,000 gallons a month so it was worth it.

My pumps are always full so il make a cut off after a certain car. BUT when your raising the price you raise it at the signs BEFORE you raise at the pumps/system. When you drop the price, you drop it at the pumps/system THEN drop it on the sign.

Valero works differently, they give a 7-9cent commission to there dealers (sucks, they got you by the balls) BUT its better than being a major like Mobile, Sunoco, Shell etc because (depending on the contract) they tell you todays price and you might be working on nothing that day. Overall if your branded you make ****, but they give you that nice royalty check for putting up there sign and selling there gas at first. They bleed that check out of you in 3 years.
