Sequester thread and the next manufactured "crisis"

No discussion at all here? As we know, Obama signed a law saying that automatic cuts will take place if X doesn't happen by Y. Obama actually said he wouldn't sign any law that did not have this automatic sequestration provision in it.

The automatic cuts will total a tiny fraction of the Federal budget. TINY. Now, Obama is acting like the sequestration is a GOP thing and that cutting ANY money from the Federal budget will basically put people out on the street.

Interestingly enough, the same Obama that balked at the GOP proposing ending tax breaks is now pushing for the same thing. Obama stated that we had to raise tax RATES and that ending breaks isn't what is needed (even if it brought in the same revenue). Now that he has the breaks, he now wants to end certain deductions. On top of that, his whole "balanced approach" has not yielded a single cut in spending. Hell, he won't even touch proposed or anticipated future spending increases.

No one is calling him to task on this, unreal. Does no one really care, or just not paying attention?

Quote:
Back in November of 2011 President Barack Obama DEMANDED the Sequestration clause be included in the budget. He wanted 2.2 Trillion dollar in cuts period...

He then promised to VETO any effort to avoid the cuts and if Congress couldn't do it, he wanted the Sequester to take place...if an agreement could not be reached.

The White House acknowledges the "sequester" came from their office, but argues that Congress was on board at the time.

btw this is 85 billion, a 2.5% reduction. Is Obama really saying there isn't even 2.5% of money we can not spend? Come on now.

I swear, politics is like trying to watch a bunch of monkeys fvck a football.

The doom and gloom that the WH is trying to sell is hilarious since the sequestration cuts amount to just a couple of days worth of federal spending. On top of that, what's even more despicable is that our elected leaders can't figure out how to cut a COUPLE OF DAYS WORTH of spending from a hilariously huge budget.

Agreed. Thank you. Obama said that allowing him to have reign over the cuts would amount to either cutting spending for a handicapped child or a poor child. He's possibly the worst human being alive at this point.

No, he said we can't afford a 2.5% reduction. We need every penny we spend to be spent. That's his position right now, for real.

The Fed/Government does have to be careful about large, significant spending cuts.....if you do it right away it'll be like cutting off ones nose to spite their face. The point being is that cuts need to be made gradually.

omg this place is on a roll today. So far in just the past few minutes I have read:

Chase and his views on Islam

JJs argument against gun control. It also makes an excellent case against cancer research. They will just die from something else anyway.

And now...
Obama being the worst human being alive.

This place is a new laugh factory.

The sequester bill, signed and demanded by Obama, calls for cuts over 10 years.

I'm aware of that, I must have misread one of the statements above.

I think people are sick and tired of the nonsense and are seeing through the manufactured disasters, as you put it.

Cuts need to be made, but don't make it sound like the country is going to turn into central Africa if we don't do something immediately.

Management by crisis is a big part of the reason why our credit rating got dinged. It's ludicrous that both sides act like petulant children when faced with the jobs they were elected to perform.

Come on now, they were elected to be quasi-celebrities. They deserve a pampered, charmed life of cocktail parties, networking and ass-kissing. As they say, politics is hollywood for ugly people.

I would think even the regulars here in PoliTalk could do a better job.

Given our broad range of backgrounds and opinions, I think we have a decent grasp of some things. What's scary, though, is by being active in this subform we are more informed and involved than probably 90% of people in our country

That thought always crosses my mind. This subforum does a great job of providing info and opinion. I would think a political only forum would have this place beat. Don't know for sure though.

I would disagree. A majority of those on this forum only regurgitate what they read on a site that conforms to their bias. How many members here are part of a political association, think tanks, subscribe to credible political magazine? I think many members here have very isolated political minds. I couldn't even imagine what most of the members here read.

This forum does more opinion than info. There are a handful of members whom I see as credible and provide posts I will actually sit down and read.

Phase 1. Sequester Kicks in

Phase 2. Millions lose jobs or have reduced hours

Phase 3. Civil Unrest happens and people gather and protest in front of the Capital Bldg and the White House

Phase 4. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) gets activated.

Phase 5. The once empty Privatized Prisons Get Filled and new Prison Jobs are created.

Phase 6. The Plutocrats are happy again.

I was comparing the general population of this sub-forum to the population at large. I think reading and regurgitating is better than a majority of the regular people out there.
