Why would they? They're not firearms in that condition

Isn't an FFL required to distribute lower receivers?

Not if its an 80% lower. That's just a piece of metal or plastic.

If its a fully milled out lower, depends if its a virgin lower, long gun lower, pistol lower, etc

Then you have state laws to consider over federal

Fun huh?

Wait, I'm confused (not surprising)....I bought a stripped lower which as you know is literally a piece of metal but still had to go through an FFL. What do you mean by an 80% lower? One that's not milled to completion?

Exactly. Stripped lowers are "firearms". You also live in NY and have to consider state law
Federal law doesn't require an FFL for long guns or LG receiver for INTRAstate transfers but state law might

I should also add that if you make a lower, any lower and complete it... You can't transfer it unless you register it as an NFA device or.... Well, die and will it

3D printed parts are intended to be prototypes and novelty items, they are not durable at all.

While parts are getting better, they aren't really that great and the accuracy of a consumer 3D printer isn't quite what you'd want it to be for a lower receiver. Lets just say that if you received one from a vendor, you would all be on here ranting about their lack of quality concerns (material aside).

If you do want to get one, I'd recommend finding an SLA printer and not a powder deposition machine. SLA machines have much higher resolution to cost ratio (better parts for less money) than powder deposition.

With all that said, there are many manufacturers refining the process of direct metal sintering and electron beam melting machines for 3D metal printing but none of those options will be in any of our budgets... When they get to our price range...then game on.

It's in its infant stage. A 1,000 printer being able to print a lower for 9 dollars in 12 hours is pretty damn good. The record so far is 800 rounds before failure

Downloaded the megapack. I will hopefully own a 3D Printer in the next few years so these will come in handy

Wrong...

Your allowed to build any firearms that you want. It's only NFA if it falls under any of the catagories like FA or SBR. As long as the lower is built as a rifle or a pistol and meets those definitions..... A home built firearm is NOT on the NFA list and does NOT have to be registered.

It only have to be registered if you ad a stock and a barrel under 16 inches. Then you have to mark it like you would any other F1 SBR.

You CAN sell firearms that you have made and they dont need serial numbers (it is suggested but not required by law) The ATF just dosent want somebody to make a business out of it. Make a couple, sell them a few years down the road and your fine but if your cranking out several a week then your breaking the law. There is no magic number so that is up to the ATF's discression.

Tailo: I bet you a coffee you're wrong. You can make them but...

If you want to sell/transfer it, the only way you can do that is to register it as an NFA item , pay 200$ (even if its not) or die and bequeath it by will or intestate succession to a heir
