Far better choice than 99.999% of owners have in their E46. Go for it!

I personally recommend a heavier weight oil such as 5w40 because of the age of our cars, as I've had much less oil consumption using it. That's just my opinion, though, and that might not even be the reason why I see less oil usage. Just what I noticed.

Clickee the link again. It is 5W-40

And BTW, I still use the 5W-30 not LL01 @ 97K miles that everyone says is too thin for our engines. Burn less than 1/2 quart in 9000 miles.

And OP, better buy two. Our engines take seven quarts.

I normally stay away from Oil threads, but...

Read the specs. This is diesel engine oil. It does not carry the "For Gasoline Engines" designation, nor does is have an API Sx rating.

I run Rotella T6 in both my BMW and my motorcycle (Honda cbr). I don't burn much oil in either. I ride my bike hard, spend very little time below 8000rpm, and after 26000 miles it still runs like new.

this is ment for diesel engines, it won't kill your car, but its not for gas engine performance. it may have an effect on your cats. I don't see why it wouldn't be ok though, as it's European approved.

And the viscosity might be thicker than LL01 spec oil. What is the viscosity of this oil at operating temperature?

Why would anyone pay $24 (you'll need 2 jugs) to put the wrong oil in their engine?

My engine has around 150K and I'm still using BMW OEM 5w-10, i got a leak in the rear main seal but i only need to add 1qt every 3k miles so far and i dint burn to much oil, or nothing like that. What is the good side to switch to this oil? I want to learn

I have just gone over 138,000 and never have to add oil between changes. It doesn't even change level on the stick, I check it at every fill up. Was running 5/40 but changed to amsoil 20/50.

Hey, I use Mobil 5w-30 all the way and never need to add any oil between change, my car is now 136k+ and I'm the OO, and I just had 2 round trips from S.F. to L.A for the last two consecutive weekends. It handles and drives super strong and smooth for a 14 yrs. auto tranny cars, and I treat it to the way that in and out it looks pretty much like a new car, I am very happy with it as the way it handles and the way it looks.

That stuff has a good reputation, especially in high temp applications (turbo Miatas and the like). I would change at 7500 as suggested, and not worry about it.

Mobil 1 is not BMW spec. I would recommend you stick with the T6, or go with Castrol Euro
