Williamsburg is getting pricier, but it's far from what I would call a nice area. Its filled with hipsters that jacked up the rent that live with 543 roommates a piece. Personally, I wouldn't live there for free.

i agree with you on a lot of topics but you're getting very annoying with your know it all attitude. you're like this rich kid that came up from nothing and now everybody needs to know about it. tone it down a little. williamsburg used to be a place where you wouldn't want to walk down a street alone after 7 pm and now has some of the biggest developments in town and some of the best nightlife around. yes there are annoying hipsters here but it's much better than what it used to be. and yes it is a nice area.

Take it easy man, I just never heard of any beatdowns or murders on the news. I've heard plenty of scandals, but nothing that would make me fear for my life. Iron out your jimmies and settle down.

You can say whatever you like and Im not saying anything that isn't true. Williamsburg is generally populated by a lot of service industry people that live with roomates that may or may not be in school, aspiring actors, writers, musicians, etc. Yes, its a lot better than it used to be, but its FAR from a "nice area." Having said that, maybe our definitions of "nice area" are vastly different. A few of my staff live there. One got jumped a few weeks ago. Another had her apartment broken into. If you like Williamsburg, more power to you, I don't.

i see you use a lot of personal experiences as means of proving something so i figured i would as well. then seeing how you seem to know so much about the area i would think you would know about it's locals and surrounding neighborhoods. i guess i was wrong. no harm done.

Actually, I can't stand brooklyn personally so I rarely ever go there. It could be complete ignorance on my part, which is why I asked where you heard that, because I never really saw much on the news with the Hassidic crowd with the exception of a few financial scandals and some diamond exchange issues. If they really are a violent bunch, that's news to me, I never disagreed or said anything to the contrary.

a nice area doesn't have to be a white picket fence suburb where everybody knows what you're doing. i'm not a fan of williamsburg but i do dine there occasionally and i see nothing wrong with it except the annoying hipsters. i wuldn't want to live there but calling "far from nice" area is silly.

Again, our definitions of nice might be different. To me, Lex and east 70s is "nice." Gramercy park is "nice." Like you, I occasionally dine in Astoria, Williamsburg, etc and I agree, there are lots of nice restaurants (I'd even argue better than Manhattan proper nowadays) but living wise? I wouldn't want my wife walking home at 2am in Williamsburg...but that just might be me.

i thought when i said the hasidics will kill you it would be an obvious sarcasm. BUT i stand by what i said. they will get violent very quickly the moment you do something against their kind (even if accidental) . They'll gang up on you in an instant.

Damn, I better watch out then. Most jews like me (non religious) don't really have much in common with the hassidics. Hell, most orthodox jews don't have much in common with hassidics. They are ultra orthodox and aren't really in the same "sect" as "regular jews." I don't defend everything jews do....especially the liberal ones...

Dumbo got very nice, although my cop friends tell me that at night, there is still a lot of drug pushing and obviously, the resulting violence. I haven't been to dumbo in the evenings for quite a while though.

you should. i go often to take pictures of the city skyline and enjoy a cigar. i never felt any discomfort about being there. i even left my 7D on a tripod for a long exposure shot while i ran to my car to get some lenses.
