2000 323ci cam position sensor code.

I replaced my cps when my cel came on. I had it checked and said it was the intake. After replacing it still ran the same. I replaced all of my plugs because they were extremely bad and the car ran great. I drove it to the parts store today to get a radiator and it started running bad like before and the cel came on again. It wont always rev all the way up and sometimes you can go more then 10 mph. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! Two things, which code did you get exactly when you scanned your car and what brand sensor did you buy? For sensors such as that ONLY OEM is allowed.

Im not 100% sure of the code from just the cheap obd reader but i think it was 0340. When I brought it into the shop this is what they found(see picture). And the one I bought I got at o Riley's part store it was an "import direct". Thanks for the fast response!!

Yea, it's your intake camshaft sensor. "import direct" is probably aftermarket. How much you paid for it?

Hmm, if you paid 120 it should be oem. Can you link me where you bought it? Did it have any bmw logo on it?

Yea, looks like what you bought is aftermarket afterall. Look at that part at oreilly's versus the ecs one. The "import direct" one has a weird sensor end with some small cut at the end. I bought an OEM one when I had to replace mine and it's exactly like the ecs oem one which has a smooth rounded sensor.

So you think that the sensor i bought is probably just bad? Is there anything else that would throw up that code? Or is there anything that keeps making them faulty?

Personally I think it is and you got ripped off.

Get the car scanned one more time and see what codes are showing now.

Swap the 5th coil (with the coil boot) with another cylinder and see if that
moves the problem.
