Sun-Roof issue with One touch/Auto Operation
So my sun-roof will not close all the way with One touch or Auto Operation. To explain each better:
Auto operation - press the sun-roof button once and the roof closes all the way. One Touch operation - Use the keyfob to close the sun-roof. Manual Operation - Hold the sun-roof button until it closes all the way. The manual operation works fine for me, but the One touch or Auto Operation does not. When I try to use the one touch and the auto, the glass gets 1/4 of the way closed and returns to the fully opened position. has anyone experienced this issue. Tentative plan: based on search on this forum 1 - Remove glass and oil track for the foam cover (lack of better word) the manual cover that you can slide open and shut with your hands when the sun-roof is closed. 2 - Change the sun-roof motor (Hopefully not) |

Those buttons screw up all the time, get a new one. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-M3-...rior/ES167025/
It's obviously not the motor because it intermittently works, which leads me to believe the electrical contacts within the switch are failing. Your car is 12 years old .. so it's not out of the realm of possibility at all. Good luck.

Most likely not the switch. I think it has to do with tension on the tracks or something. There's a way to recalibrate it by holding the switch for a certain amount of time

Open sunroof with button holding until it reaches open all the way then release switch repress switch to open and hold for a couple seconds. then close sunroof all the way with switch release switch then repress switch for a couple of seconds. This should reset your auto opening and closing limits! Have you disconnected the battery for any reason? Then try auto opening again!

bmwguyNC I tried your suggestion and that did not resolve my issue. i am going to remove the glass, lube up the track and see what happens.
