go to http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator and you can easily compare the differences. The 9 inch wide rim would have been sticking out and addition 11mm from what you have now and a full inch or 25mm from stock which I think is 8 inch 47 offset, at least that is what the stock style 44 wheel is.
the 8.5 40 offset puts all but 1mm to the outside or 13mm stick out from stock.
The stock 8.5 style 68 wheel has offset of 50 which put 9 mm on the inside and only 3mm on the outside
so if the inside clearance can take the additional 9mm and 13mm on the outside I would suggest a 9 inch wheel offset around 40 as someone else suggested. 35 offset puts all the wheel on the outside
