Pre-lobster

Handfull of oysters and littlenecks, shucked by yours truly
A few shrimp cocktail
A stuffie or stuffed crap
1lb of steamers

Then the lobster steamed on top of every shell i just shucked/steamed

Bottle of Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc throughout the entire ordeal.

I'm not a shellfish guy, but that all sounds amazing

Swap the bottle of Kim C with a bottle of La Playa Sauv Blanc and I'm all in.

I'll get it back on track.
Uni. Thats right. Im gonna catch flak for it, but I just can't get into it. I had the best, fresh, alive 5 minutes ago caught off the coast of santa barbara. I don't mind the flavor (when used in a sauce) but the texture is kind of not my thing. I assume the boys here that like oysters will like uni as well.

Uni is interesting...I've had good and very bad exposure to it.

I've always wanted to try uni but have never been at a place where I would trust ordering it.

Yea if you're gonna eat it, make sure it's at a phenomenal restaurant. Don't order it at your local sushi joint.....unless your local sushi joint is Morimoto

Yep, i'm an oyster guy, and I love Uni.

I will say, even after eating it for about 6 years now, I still take small bites, and basically smash it against the roof of my mouth. The flavor is amazing, but ya.. my first bite was a sushi piece like the pic above, auto-gag at sushi boat in Pasadena back in 2006. I remember that experience very clearly

But now, i order it whenever I can get it, sashimi style, dipped in a TINY bit of soy sauce.

I had an oyster/uni bisque with crispy beets, micro greens, and idk.. a couple other things. Holy fvck was that amazing...

I would trust uni before mackeral

Honestly, 99% of the sushi places serve the pre-packaged, cleaned uni. It is rather sustainable, i've never had a bad piece and it isn't "punch you in the face i'm about to turn" like some other things...

Morimoto is the sh*t however. I've eaten at the one in Tribeca a few times, awesome sushi, and their maki is actually pretty reasonable. The spicy tuna is almost a 50/50 ratio of rice to sesame seeds on the outside, effing delicious.

Uni is an acquired taste because of the texture for me. I hated it as a kid but as I grew up and became more of a foodie I developed an appreciation for its subtle taste and texture.
Uni with a raw quail egg yolk on top is great for sushi.
When spear fishing we'd also grab them fresh out of the ocean with a little olive oil and balsamic/soy.

Went to a meat raffle on saturday for a couple hours... all meat/lobsters are donated and proceeds go to the local little leagues. This was the middle one.... the last/largest was bigger. Insane.

The funny thing is, on a normal lobster, eating the meat out of the legs is not performed by many... so its kinda like, toss away meat since there is so little. Those are the size of small snow crab legs... yowzers!

I was just gonna say, there's a lot more edibles on that bad boy. That would make a nice appetizer.

I stopped my bid at $75, she went for $80

I'll have a solid 2.5lb lobster this week, maybe for lunch on Friday since i have the day off. Seriously craving one right now.
