How much love for your ZHP

Now that I have fixed my ZHP I wanted to share my thoughts about this car. I absolutely love the car overall. Although I most likely wouldn't have paid new for the ZHP package at $3900 it was quite expensive, but it's way more than just an M Tech II body kit and different steering wheel. Front to back it's a cool piece of work. While not a full M car it offered a nice blend of sporty options including the Sedan option that the M group chose not to include for the E46. I love the sounds of the car and it's nimble handling. For a 9 year old car it still feels very relevant with the exception of the latest iPhone connection etc.

My car is pretty much a great Garage find car. It was sitting in a garage since 09. I had a Pre-Purchase inspection of the car done at one of my favorite auto shops and a complete Car Fax and total car inspection at my favorite Body shop. The previous owner had put a cheap set tires on the car and these howled like snow tires and tried to change direction on their own without notice. Not a good feeling at all. Overall now I love driving this car it's just what I was looking for for a daily driver.

Okay I'll just this once compare my ZHP to my 1M. For those who don't know what a 1M is, I'll just say it's my favorite M car by a mile. I have owned and or driven just about every M car type that has been imported to the USA over the years. the 1M is everything the M group stands for in a performance car. Mine is number 293 of 740 cars imported to the USA. Driving it is AWESOME. It's truly indescribable. The comparison between the ZHP and my 1M is like the difference between High School Football and the NFL.

Okay that's enough comparing the two cars it's not what I try and do. I love the fact that I can drive my ZHP day in and day out and just enjoy the car. It brings a smile to my face every time the tach swings past 4K RPM, it's just so sweet sounding and the engine is so smooth. I'm a BMW sucker through and through. I have done 2 European Deliveries for my 335i in 07 and my 1M in 2011. My first visit and tour of the Munich BMW Factory was in 1972 when they were building 2002tii's. I was a kid then but I fell in love with BMW then and I'm still afflicted by them today.

By the way did I say I enjoy driving my BMW's

Well, I don't have a 1M but I have owned a bunch of BMWs since my first - a brand new '76 2002 - and my recent ZHP absolutely stands as one of my all-time favorites.

I love my 330 with lighter wheels and a shorter rear end. I do envy the ZHP gloss trim, though!

How much did you get this garage find for, what was the mileage on it?

Sorry, shorter rear end?

I love the ZHP 135 wheels almost more than any other part of the package.

The person I bought the car from was the second owner. He purchased the car in the spring of 07 and sold it to me last month. He put 10,000 miles on the car while he owned it. He let the plates expire in Sept 09. The car was originally purchased in Hollywood Cali. driven 44,000 miles on a lease than turned in.

I bought the car with 52,000 miles on it for $15K I am very happy with the purchase of the car. I have installed new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, a fresh Alignment and replaced the Rubber Mounted Steering Coupling all of which has made the car drive very close to new again.

I think what mango is eluting to is that the ZHP comes with a more aggressive differential; 3.07(manual) 3.65(auto) . A non ZHP 330 comes with 2.93(manual) and 3.38(auto).

I can't stand the 1M styling, but they are a great bang for the buck.

I was wondering about that since the ZHP had the shorter or lower gears OEM.

I love how well-tuned the exhaust is. One of the comments I got about my car:

"Wow, your exhaust is so deep and throaty, but when we're cruising it's nice and quiet!"

I <3 ZHP

I'm not sure that's specific to the ZHP as I get those same comments as well on my non-ZHP muffler. I've even had ZHP owners say it sounds sportier than theirs!

The ZHP has it's own Muffler, not saying that the other E46's don't sound great as well. BMW 6 cylinder sound is legendary.

I'm well aware of the difference in part#. We don't know the exact differences though other than the tips being welded on as opposed to clamped on and the ZHP muffler not having a vacuum-actuated butterfly plate.

This page has some great info about the ZHP package.

http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showt...Package-Option

The ZHP's are such fun BMW's to drive, a bit of a Stand out car similar to the tii from the early 70's, not quite to the degree obviously of the E30 M3 and E21 M5, but a worthy car in BMW's history non the less. BMW has most defiantly built some stand out cars in it's storied history, some hugely popular some more of a sleeper cult like car.
