My Ride: A car.
I never give them money, food or smokes. I donate money/used clothes to a shelter or half-way home.

There was always one guy that used to hustle in front of my old restaurant, and he told me how much he makes on an average night (Gramercy Park area)....he clears about $300 a night, and up to $600 on a good night, all tax free.

My Ride: reclining rear seats
Only time I've done this is when I parked my car in a sketch neighborhood and a bum was sitting there on the sidewalk.

I gave him $5-10 and asked him to keep an eye on it. He was gone when I came back 2 hrs later (surprise surprise). I really only did it so that my car didn't get vandalized, not because I wanted to help him out because I knew exactly what would happen. I'll bet that guy was at the liquor store before I was down the block.

One of my saddest memories is when it was around Christmas in SF Bay, very cold outside. We stopped by a 7-11 for beer and there was a homeless guy outside.

My friend asks, "do you want anything? beer?"

he replies

"food"

Bought him chips, hot dogs, etc.

I don't give homeless people money. Sometimes I ask if they want me to grab them some food- if they say yes I will.

I am also much more generous when a homeless or down on their luck person asks me to get them a bagel or a sandwich. Sure- why not! It's the least I can do.

But I will not line some random dude's pockets...

I can't see the video, so I'm not sure what we're talking about.

But at a major intersection, on my way to work, there are a couple of guys who will sit there with signs. They wern't even badly dressed. I saw them walk off one day, and one pulled out an Iphone..... So no, I don't give money.

We have this in NY too (digging through trash) but it's part of the act. Some will stand in the middle of winter in a raggedy t shirt with no shoes on. They take the hustle to the max.

just yesterday on the way to my train I passed the lady that has been pan handling for more than a year. She was going into the quick-mart with her well worn lotto numbers. no bueno.

I have regularly bought a bowl of soup and stuff for an older guy that used to have a dog with him. He moved corners, so I hardly see him anymore.

If no one helped the poor, nature would take it's course and there'd be a lot less poor people. But we as a species are no longer going through "natural selection".

There was a lady around here that used to "hustle" a busy intersection that I frequent. One day she wasn't pregnant, the next day she had a baby bump that made her look 8 months pregnant. I'm sure she was raking in cash until people figured out it was a pillow she jammed under there.

Gave a homeless guy a jacket once. He immediately walked over to another homeless guy and traded it for alcohol.

Never again.

Yea I am sure. Even if this was true wouldn't you give them money? After all they are willing to prove that they will bust their ass for your fifty cents. I am sure you wouldn't do it.

someone walking around NY with no shoes in the middle of winter all for the hopes of a few dollars.
