Crownwheel/Ringset & Pinion sizes for E46 Differentials

I know this is a far-fetched attempt to get some answers, but I am hoping for the best. Is there a listing of part numbers and sizes/dimensions of the differential ring and pinions used in the E46?

in usa we only have 188k size for all E46 non-M cars. E46 M3 uses only 210mm standard WBS motorsports gearsets.

all of the 188K is the same; in europe there is a different standard for differential for small displacement cars that is never used in any USA model E46.

supposedly the F30 is using this newer smaller standard on some models-

I think the X3 3.91 from the automatics is similar (identical?) to the 168k diffs they use on 4-cyl E46s in Europe. European Diesels and Alpinas use 210k (or maybe it was 215k)

The 2.2 is a 6-cylinder, is there a way to find out what kind of axle is using? What does the 188k stand for?

Edit, Realoem lists 188K for the 320 manual unless "for vehicles with shorter final drive ratio or automatic", which lists 168K
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...34&hg=33&fg=10

shorter final drive ratio than what?

188k is KOMPACT; to designate "NEW" 188mm standard.

188mm classic is e30, e36, e34
188mm K KOMPACT is e39 I6, E46 I6 - in usa we only have 2500cc and LARGER; so no 168mm for e39 or e46 (besides Xi Front diff e46 that is a 168mm something or other)

KOMPACT = short pinion gear (3CM shorter pinion than classic 188mm) and Ring gear near CENTER;

188mm Classic - note the ring gear is more LEFT:

188mm K KOMPACT: note the ring gear is more CENTERED:

Thank you, upon research, it appears that the 2.2 320 also comes with 188K, and the 4-cyl. 2.0 320, comes with the 168K.

Is there a way to verify the above, as the LSD I'm looking is made for the 188K

Here's what I got so far:
Type 168 (E30&E36 >320i)
Type 168K (E46 >320i 2.0L)
Type 168KL (E46 WTCC&ETCC 2004/2005)
Type 168L (E90 320si WTCC, E81 E87 E88 E90 E92 >2.0L)

Type 188* (E30 325i + M3, E36 325i + M3 3,0l Gr.N)
Type 188DTM (M3 Gr.A and DTM, E36 M3 3,0l Gr.A)
Type 188STC (E36 STC >1993)
Type 188K (E46 320i 2,2l > 330i)
Type 188L (E86 Coupé Option >04/2006; E87 E90)
Type 188LW (E86/E87/E90 >2008)

Type 210 (E28, E31,E34, E36 3.2L)
Type 210K (E46 M3 inc CSL, Z4M)
Type 215 (E90 E92 M3)
Type 230 (F10 F12 M5/M6)

Why don't you ask the LSD Maker directly?

I make my own original billet 188K LSD so I can answer anything about my own product; if you are looking at an aftermarket LSD then the company producing should answer the compatibility questions for you.

The maker you are looking at should be able to answer your questions and provide you simple measurements of Bearing OD, distance between bearings, and relationship to bearings from ring gear flange.
