Don't you dare ask a girl out through a text message either. I personally hate that this is what is deemed ok. Pick up the damn phone, give her a call. Or just walk next door and knock.

Also reiterating that being neighbors will not be of benefit to you. It may seem great now, but the resulting proximity will be a downfall.
Texting is 100% ok. We are no longer at a point where asking a girl to get together has to be so formal. I have always just said things like this "hey lets do this" and they are usually like ok. I have never missed an opportunity because I didn't call.

Personal preference. I don't think picking up the phone is formal. Not saying he needs to go to her father's house and ask his permission to take his daughter to the county fair. Neither do I feel that a person stands at a disadvantage for texting these days...I know that is where communications has gone, doesn't change my opinion on the matter.

I'm not saying it has to be like that every time, but just at the beginning he is asking her out for the first time. Once the relationship has been established, use a carrier pigeon for all it matters.

If you send this message you can forget about ever hooking up with her again...not to mention that it's WAY over 160 characters. Just ask if she wants to grab dinner/movie/backyard grilling/whatever. Casual is key.

Send a message via AIM to DrkSide_RbL
OP are you asking her to marry you or out to dinner??? You are smothering her if you send her that message. Just call her up or text her to say hi and ask her if she wants to hang out again and see where it goes from there. If she doesn't want to make time for you then that means you didn't do her right the first time

In this day and age though, it's kind of common. I've done it, still do it..quick meet ups etc.

I'm referring to asking her out for the first time. Not an all the time thing by any means...as Ive said once something has been established messaging and the like is more than fine. And again, I know this is more than acceptable and common place these days.

Personal preference is all. It's a potato thing

Both of these responses seem apt to me

For a minute there, I thought you said DP. I thought to myself, she's a keeper lol. Slow down tiger. Girls don't find that stuff romantic but creepy. Now if you were together forever and want to propose, it's a different story. Just asked her if she has time for dinner this weekend.

don't ask her if she has time. IMO that gives her an out. Just invite her. "hey lets get dinner saturday" shows much more confidence then "do you have time for dinner this weekend". The first shows initiative where the second gives her all control.
