Is a radar detector effective these days?

I havn't gotten a ticket in ten years until this morning. I was caught on radar doing 11 over. Do you guys know if the new radar detectors are worth getting?

Thank you,
Willie

I don't have one but a friend of mine who I ride with often has a Valentine One. It's very, very good. You just have to know how to use a radar detector. It's perfect for highways with a scattered number of cars. If you're by yourself for more than a half mile or so, you are then vulnerable to instant on radars. Lasers will **** you anytime without jammers. You might get lucky and catch the laser with the detector off the reflection of another car.

Of course.

I have a Valentine 1, quad laser interceptor jammers, cb radio, scanner and an amazing free app called waze. You will have to take some time to get used to a detector to understand how it works then that's where you start saving.

Radar detectors are good even if you're not trying to avoid speeding tickets, just for situational awareness. I can't believe I'm saying this but getting a JOL speeding ticket and going through the whole process has completely discouraged me from speeding and I haven't been pulled over in 5 years. Though, had I owned my radar detector way back then, I probably wouldn't have gotten pulled over and been out a ton of money (JOL speeding = license suspension where I'm from). Get a V1 or a nice escort and do a clean install with a bracket, I hate suction cups and hanging wires.

Definitely worth it! I have a hardwired V1 that's helped me on a number of occasions. Around here, 80% of cops use Ka band, and about 20% use laser (it's a more expensive toy for them). The V1 picks up Ka quite a ways away. If you get lasered, you're done for unless you also have a jammer. I've occasionally gotten reflections from other cars in traffic about a laser, but they are typically more insidious than radar. The disadvantage cops have with laser is that it's difficult to aim while moving, so they will be on the side of the road. From my research, a V1 is worth it ($400 for 80% of use cases) whereas a laser jammer kit is not ($800 for the remaining 20%, plus install hassles). I would suggest looking through the following links for more info:

Yes. You need two heads at least for either the front or rear for them to work effectively and send the proper algorithm to the laser gun to jam it. I have two front, two rear.

Hey, I'm going to miss my CB from my truck, do you have a portable or did you mount an antenna somewhere, if so where? CBs are awesome on long drives.
Thanks!

Getting me started on one of my favorite hobbies

I have a Uniden Pro520XL cb radio which is held between the center console and passenger seat since I don't have sport seats. Black Laird TMB8 NMO trunk lip mount is routed from the CB, under the rear seats, through the firewall and mounted to the center of the trunk (no issues with water getting in). And all of that is paired to a Laird CB27 antenna. When the antenna is off I have this Laird cap for the mount.

That's actually pretty awesome, clean mount. Thanks for the links/info on that.

You got it. My $150 setup is very powerful and has the best bang for the buck. Only thing I envy from my friends Midland CB is that it has a weather frequency on it but that's easily covered with my scanner.

Jake you may as well be speaking chinese. I don't know any of the stuff you just posted. I did see this in person guys and Jake's setup is crazy. His car looks like he rigged it to go on a full scale assault lol.

Yup but it's pure garbage now compared to the high end detectors today.

Is the price of the radar detector higher or lower than the price of one ticket in 11 years?
