If you pronounce it as "beemer" and you aren't referring to a motorcycle then you're wrong, sound like a douche, and need a swift kick in the jimmies.

Both are ghey to say though. When someone asks what I drive, I say an E46.. when they ask what that is, I say an old BMW.. when they ask which one, I say a 3 series.
First off, you give them the chassis code to the car you drive, that is light years gayer then saying "bimmer." People say "merc" "lex" and "benz" for short, saying "bimmer" in a normal, guy to guy, casual conversation, is not gay.

Telling people you own an e46 is gayer than aids, how many people do you think really have any clue wtf you are talking about.

Anyways... majority rules on this one for me. NEVER have I ever hear anyone pronounce it bihmmer, and that goes from random kids that say "nice beemmer" to my intellectual enthusiasts who I see from time to time.

I am going to say "Bihmmer" next time, and i'll record the person saying "wtf is that"

and when you pronounce it like "dinner" no one is going to know wtf you are talking about.

anyways, the poll speaks for itself. this is a slang, so there is no right and wrong, there is majority and minority. you and chase can have a bimmer-circle-jerk and tell us how wrong we are.

lol bihmmer... please... no one says that expect for you nerds that go off of the way its spelled

Well if you're from the SOUF, you would indeed say "DEEE NER"

For instance: "Come gitcher deeeener!"

What? Is it seriously not common knowledge that its pronounced "Beemer"? Obviously it's spelled bimmer but come on.
New thread: how do you say knob? It's got the super tricky k at the beginning

thats what this thread is about, so apparently not. i always knew it was b"ee"mer

also, german guy adds that "beemer," as it applies to motorcycles, comes from motorcycle racing in england. both are still pronounced the same way

Pronounced the same way but spelled differently you say?! But no. That can't be possible. It can be like to, two, and too. Or our and hour.

I've never once heard it pronounced like "dinner". Just feels weird saying it like that.

I don't say either. When people ask "What do you drive" I find it easiest to say "none of your goddamn business".

This amazes me... because the "common use" is Beemer, that's "correct"?

This is silly. Look up online and you'll quickly find it's bimmer (as in dinner)... I don't care what the slang use is.

Think about it this way, if Bimmer and Beemer were pronounced the same way, there wouldn't be a shirt offered through ECS.

Not trying to be combative but we should actually provide the correct answer in this thread :

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ot-Bimmer-quot
http://carwoo.com/blog/knowing-your-bmw-slang/

Quote:
You see, there’s a right way to use “Bimmer,” and the difference between Bimmer and Beemer, or Beamer, is great- the first means BMW automobiles, the second two refer to BMW motorbikes.

And yes, apparently you’re supposed to pronounce Bimmer like you would dimmer. Otherwise you risk being an idiot. Why? It all goes back to a simpler time when BMW motorcycles trumped the auto fleet, and competition with the British BSA brand was quite heated. BSA’s were known as Beezers, as a way of referencing the brand as one word, so of course BMW had to come up with their own slag. Guess what they used? Yes, Beemers (also known as Beamers). Yeah, so know you know. There are actually page long discussions on this subject, which, I guess is a testament to how seriously people take their beloved brand. Moral of the story: don’t screw up your BMW slang*, or you might be denounced as a Merc-head, or even worse, and Audi-llite. (Ed. note- I have no idea if those two terms have even been used).

Whoever had the time to write that deeply into the pronunciation clearly isn't getting any poosay, and idk about you, but i don't trust virgins.

Its fvcking "beemer"... the entire world says it that way. The other 42 of you that have this "proper bimmer technicality accent" can enjoy repeating yourselves when no one has a clue what you are saying. If you so confident, take a stroll at ask random strangers what a "common nickname" is for a BMW.

I look forward to your results

When I hear people say either beemer or bimmer it just makes me cringe. Both sound stupid, what's wrong with saying BMW?
