13. The Moa were a giant flightless bird from New Zealand that reached 12 feet tall and weighed more than 500 pounds. They died out because of over hunting by the Maori by 1400.

14. This giant, flightless Elephant bird was found only on the island of Madagascar and died out by the 17th century. It would have been 10 feet tall and weighed 880 pounds.

when i went to australia they warned you about cassowaries in the bush. these things look like god damned dinosaurs and will fvck you up with razor claws

I remember watching a video back in middle school about the genetic revival of the Woolly Mammoth. They found one completely preserved in ice, except for the top half of its head/brain. They were going to put its DNA into elephant eggs and keep artificially breeding it until the genetic traits were mostly Woolly Mammoth and less elephant. I wonder how far along they are, now.
