what is your goal?

I'm at 170K miles with stage two installed on my 328. only engine issue I have had with the engine is the oil pump a few years ago. I'm still craving more power, and I'm starting to feel I'm "maxed out" when compared to the e46 M3.

Its all about budget. Not sure what the extent of your overheating issue was. But if no ill effects have showed up in a few thousand miles id say your engine is good to go.

either way you go it sounds like you need to replace your entire cooling system.

How was integrating the the electronics of the engine to the car? Did you have ASC? I'm aware you modified the s52 head to accept the double vanos, again, was the electronics basically plug and play and tune?

an m52tub28 head will not work on an ironblock.

in e36's you can mix and match engine/electrical components so easily. Im trying to find a way to add a more durable block, but still retain dual vanos and dsc. Just like OP.

Lately I've been thinking the m52tub28 would be a better engine to build than the m54b30 for one main reason.
The 89.6mm stroke/84mm bore creates horrible harmonics. I can't believe BMW did the same bore & stroke with the n54. I'm expecting to see similar "oil pump nut fell off" threads from them in the near future. The s54 combo and others are also stupid. (Flame suit on)
m52tub28 is a nice square 84mm/84mm.
Again, I'm only saying this because of the harmonic problems. If BMW could figure out how to keep these combinations balanced, I'd have no problem with them.

I have a strong passion for BMWs, but they sure do some stupid stuff sometimes (in my eyes anyway).

The block is the only thing stopping me from boosting my engine. I just don't have the balls (or money) to sink any money into the engine if it's just going to separate in the future. I'd just rather swap an s54 into the car and than start from there. Or get a foxbody. (lol seriously.)
