Is TWO stereos an option...

Might sound ridiculous, but I'm looking into options to playing iPod or iPhone through my 2000 e46, not sure what Bluetooth options I have so I wondered if its easy enought to install a second single din unit underneath that would connect the iPhone, seen some units on eBay for iPod -mp3 so i gues they wont need the aerial...for about 40 BUT can you have 2 units in???

Cheers all

Steven

If you think that's a big job, I don't think you're up for custom mounting an extra head unit below your current one.

"Cheer" is first recorded in English in the 13th century. Its source was a Middle English word behind which was the Latin word for "face".By the mid 1400's 'What chere be with you?' was a common greeting. At this time 'chere' also began to mean good humour. It wasn't until 1919 that "Cheers" was written a salutation before a drink.
Now, its an informal expression of saying 'Thank you' or 'Goodbye'. Its become a cheerful little word !!!

Cheers ! :-)

You want to hook your iPad up to your stereo? Why? There are plenty of kits that work like that. The best is USA-Spec. Others are Grom, DICE, and some other brands I can't remember.

...well one reason is I have a 14 year old son, who would LOVE that option on a longer drive, and
secondly it's only 28 uk pounds which is peanuts, so seems a really easy, cheap, quick option...
Thirdly I HATE CDs they get lost, scratched, start jumping, clutter up your ride, you can't create playlists...etc.etc.. So the stacker would not be missed

And finally I'm looking for a very discreet option that won't entail removing the factory fitted stereo...

Dont ipads have a jack like most cell phones and mp3 players have? just get a really long cord. That thing on ebay looks weird and like a pain to instal to me.

...surely not as painful as removing trim, soldering etc.? I'm guessing it could just go thru the glove box.

You could get a DICE unit w/ Bluetooth (that's not what I did though).

I just use my factory iPod hookup with a bluetooth adapter on it. I'm not sure if the OEM iPod interface works on 2000 MY cars. They updated the head unit in 2002 or something. Anyway here are my posts if it helps (probably not):

Dude, none of these suggestions are as hard as you are making them out to be. I'm unsure why you think adding a SECOND stereo is going to be straight forward in any way. If you REALLY want a new head unit with bluetooth, just go over to Crutchfield.com and pick one. They will sell you everything you need to plug and play install it. You'll just have to solder a pigtail adapter to your new headunit while it's out of the car (couldn't be easier).

Thanks wde46...I've heard people having issues trying to get Bluetooth to work with the 2000 model, like I said the second head unit is no longer an option .....ALTHOUGH how about a stacking hi-if set up with a turntable on he dash...

I jest!

There are definitely adapters that will do what you are trying to do, at far less cost.
