The sports suspension is lower with less travel. You need to use shocks and struts that are designed for that. Go with Koni or Bilstein.

All e46 (edit: non-M) dampers should be interchangeable. The springs are what affects ride height, so the dampers should be matched to the springs. Stock sport springs are not aggressive.

Monroe is OK, but I'd pony up for some more reputable ones like Bilstein, Koni, or Sachs.

Like mention above^

Bilstein sport & koni adjustables on sale $700 a set of 4.

( I would go koni adjustable & get lifetime alignment) you can lower it or make softer ride + alignment anytime.

Sachs is factory & fails at 50k lol.
Avoid it. Maybe ..

Now, KW is coilover at $1,200+

Check the Bilstein product catalog (B4 -> OEM replacement shocks). You will see that Bilstein only offers ONE rear shock absorber for all non M3 models. They are all the same. Bilstein does offer TWO different front shock absorbers. One is for the M2 suspension package ("stiffer"). The other one is for all "regular" suspenions which includes your "sportliche Fahrwerksabstimmung".

Why is that so? The "sportliche Fahrwerksabstimmung" only means -> lower springs. The springs lower the car by only one inch. You dont need special shock absorbers for that...

You will soon have to replace it again, + pay for another alignment.

Monroe poor handling/durability? Ive read on other forum people using Monroe but the price speaks for it self in terms of quality.

from personal experience, save up money and drive the car crappy for now until you buy the koni or bilstein set too replace it all at once.

Sports shocks/struts & springs on a standard 325i

Friends, I have a 2001 325i with standard suspension. Can I install the springs, struts and shocks that go with the Sports Package? Is there anything else in the package that I am missing? Will it work? Thanks.

Koni's are rebound adjustable. Not height. What are you talking about?

No need to replace the springs unless you want to go lower. Just get some good quality shocks+struts and call it a day.

Thanks, Sean. The car has 108k, so I thought replacing the springs might be a good idea. So, if I understand you correctly, I can put shocks/struts--Sachs or Bilstein HD or Koni Strt--that fit the Sports Package, and it will work without changing springs. Or...if I do put springs in, I can put Sports Package springs. Right?

You may combine sport package springs or your current ones with any of the dampers you listed. I would however recommend spending extra for Koni Yellows instead of STRTs. Bilstein HD's will be a little rough for daily driving. Springs should be good at that mileage, unless they are broken (you would have noticed). I replaced my dampers at 150k miles and kept the factory springs.

what's the story on the STRT's; do you not like the ride, or will they not
last long enough? I appreciate your comment that the HD's might ride too hard. Thanks.

Lasting long is a moot point since they should come with a lifetime warranty from Koni. Not the perfect fit IMO for a sports sedan. Too soft, similar to a non-sport suspension ride.
