The best is entirely up to you. Lower the most would be coilovers.

I used eibach spring with Bilstein sport,m3 rear....-> amazing handling but u will sacrifice the comfort and feel every bump on the road, so that's y people use coil cover ... So that they can adjust ride height and get re-aligment every time they adjust height ... After my sport Bilstein goes bad , I will purchase HD one"s

I have h&r sports and Bilstein sport shocks and live on the coast of Maine. I think it's perfect. But no way would I go more than 17" wheels - the ride is firm but not harsh to me. But with less sidewall tires I may feel otherwise.

H&R Sports (found HERE) will lower your Xi a little over an inch. If you'd like to go lower, UUC has springs (found HERE) which lower the Xi about 1.6 inches. Now if you want to get lower than that coilovers are going to be the path I would suggest. FK, H&R, and KW all make great quality setups for the Xi and can be found HERE.

My XI when i had it was on H&R and the drop was around 2.3inches. on 18in wheels it was 24.25inches from bottom of wheel (not including tire) to the bottom of the fender

That's a hefty drop! I'm going off my information from H&R, they state they lower the car between 1.2 and 1.5 inches.

I think its for regular RWD E46 which has lower suspension than AWD E46 from the factory.
AWD E46 is about 1-1.5 inch higher than RWD E46.

H&R states that the drop may be more than advertised. They only state those drops to stay in regulation i believe.

I've got the H&S and Bilstein combo from Turner Motorsports. Lowered like 1.2 inches in the front and 1 in the rear I think. Its the same ride height as the 330i. But it rides nice and handles well.

So are you saying it will be a lower drop than advertised? I want a lower look than 1.2 and Suspension techniques drops a little lower but is around $60-$80 more. Don't want it slammed but also don't want a non xi look.
