Question about codes

Just wondering if my car has any code issues will the check engine light come on? Or are there codes that are present but do not result in the check engine light coming on until checked with a code reader.

Also I heard the intake boot tearing is a common problem and I have an issue where it sometimes sounds like there is an air leak when I press on the gas (this happened after I opened and closed my air filter box) but the noise goes away after driving a little and the engine heats up.

Nevertheless, I wanted to know if the intake boot had a tear would the check engine light to come on or would the car have a code.

You can have pending codes that haven't occurred long enough to set the CEL.

Usually the noise you're describing is the CCV. Intake boots take about 30 seconds to check....so check them?
