Drive shaf issues

hello guys an gals. On my 2004 m3 smg I was getting some unwanted vibration with a loud clinking noise(cluck cluck cluck) at low low speed acceleration . So i finally get time to get the car in the air and look thought it was my subframe, nop then checked out my strut mounts. Nothing... then i looked at all bushings even called my tech over and him look threw it. still nothing ... Then I got pretty aggravated with it told him to hop in while it was in the air put it in first and let it free spin to see where the noise is coming from. after a brief search and throw looking around i seen the drive shaft was rotating unusually and not really smooth it looked uneven when it was turning. But issue clears up at higher speed...

So after all that crazy rambling what now has any one heard of this issue, im pretty sure those drive shafts have a non serviceable ujoint... humm well figured ill ask before i pull exhaust and see whats broke....

Did you look at the flex disc by the transmission those tend to crack often with age also look in to the center bearing support. Do you have smg?

My Ride: E46 M3, E60 530i,
In the process of fixing this on my 540. It is the CV joint that connects the driveshaft to the differential. Best bet is to buy a new driveshaft with the CV installed

Check the guebo or drive shaft coupler, the big rubber gromet that connects the transmission to the driveshaft, mine was almost in shreds after a recent track day, it wasn't creating vibrations yet, but was contributing to harsh shifts as it wasn't absorbing part of them, your's could be worse and having slack in the connection at slow speeds but as the car gets going slowly lessons, as a low tire would.

i had an issue like that, my flex disk and center support bearing were shot, as well as my diff bushings were starting to go, fairly easy fix, half an afternoon and 300 bucks worth of parts, car runs great now
