Weird electrical issue. Car dies when ignition turned?

fixed: thanks Griffin. It turns out that the new battery I put in was sliding around because it was too short to be held in by the battery bracket, slid back and forth enough times that the terminal nut loosened. Tightened it up and slid some shims in that sucker and I'm good to go. Thank got I didn't have to swap any parts out. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

So recently my headlights started flickering on and off extremely briefly when driving.

And after that when I would go to start the key, EVERYTHING would shut off and it would take several minutes for anything electrical to respond. Now the car is completely dead. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

A bad battery or alternator would be a good place to start.

But why would a bad battery come back after a while? Like the car shuts off, then starts up again in a little bad, and the entire electrical system was not working.

Nobody has any ideas? I'm not sure where to start with the light flickering issue and then the car turning off when the ignition is turned on.

How does it turn off when turned on? Kinda backwards.. I don't really get what you're saying.. Your car is on and cuts off when you try to turn it on? Or are you saying your cluster lights turn off when you turn it on? Confused..

Guys like this? What's that supposed to mean?

It's pretty simple and weird. I push the key in the ignition. The cluster lights up, it dings etc. lights come on blah blah, but when I go to start the car, ie. turn the ignition full, the whole car shuts off, ie. EVERYTHING electric. No power locks, no keyless entry, no electronic trunk pop, no turning the car on, no interior lights.

The problem used to solve itself, and in a few minutes, or a few seconds, I could just start the car again, but as of today it won't turn on at all, no electronics work what so ever.

The other issue, which I'm not sure if it's related, was headlights flickering on/off rapidly while driving.

It has HIDs, and I don't think my power steering fluid is leaking. I haven't checked yet but I haven't noticed any lights or issues with my steering.

There are no lights to tell you when its time to chexk your steering fluid. A quick pop of the hood will tell. Observing reservoir is it dirty on the outside looking similar to ancient eruptions of a volcano? That isnt the real leak. Looking a t the bottom of that canister and the hoses coming from it do they look like theyre covered in a residue that may seem ancient? It probably wont look wet or glazing like a normal fresh leak would. Also are your HIDs stock oem?

Dude. Change the damn ignition switch. Your problem will go away. 20 bucks from ebay for a second hand one. 20 minutes to install.

I'll do both these things, check the power steering and look into an ignition switch.

Isn't it odd that all my electronic system shuts off when I turn the key though? I would think if it was just the ignition switch that the rest of the electrical system would work.
