SMG clutch slipping?

Hey guys,

Couple weeks ago I started noticing a problem with my SMG getting into first gear abnormally. I know it's all about throttle control, however even with perfect control it feels like my car is slipping getting into first. Also when I do get into 1st and I change to 2nd, I hear a rather large clunking noise when I switch gears.. Only happens from 1st to 2nd.

I would take it to a shop in my area but everyone around here will try to make an extra buck off of you if you don't know the problem.. I'm thinking the clutch is slipping and I would need to replace that.. Any other suggestions?

First thing I'd have done is a teach-in for SMG. There are various adaptations for SMG that can be set, one of which is clutch slip. Find a good indy with Autoenginuity.

Thanks for the suggestion. I researched what you said a little bit and found some people are successful after doing a SMG Reset. Not everyone needs a new clutch, I hope myself included lol. I called a local indy shop around my area that specialize in BMW's and hopefully this will be solved.

also a random thing to check is your rear diff fluid level, when my input shaft seal needed to be replaced and I leaked diff fluid over a few months the shift between first and second was uber rough due to low diff fluid, when I'd top it off and soon after had the seal fixed the problem went away.
