so how many 13 year old 325 Verts (even though it only has 36k miles) go that long with needing some sort of repairs outside of regular maint/normal wear & tear?
That's not the issue with aftermarket warranties, the issue is that regular maintenance is not covered by warranties, especially not 3rd party ones. They usually only cover major component failure, and even then I can't imagine it being too easy to make a claim. Either way, what's done is done, enjoy your car, and if murphys law holds up, the mere act of purchasing the extra warranty would render it not necessary and you have 4 years of trouble free ownership

Agree w post #3....re: raped with the cost of warranty. (I hope they included a tube of Aloe Vera. Just jabbin ya for some fun.) Price of car itself is a STEAL. Perhaps they reduced the price of the car ONLY if you bought the Hugh Heffner Warranty along with it, only to make u feel warm & fuzzy on the "price" of the "car"? ie. Would that VW dealer actually have let you buy it for that price withOUT warranty & just drive away?...I really don't think so. Who really needs a warranty on a car w/that LOW of miles...if you could've driven away withOUT that warranty, I would have done so. But that's just my thoughts.

The whole main thing is...ya got a nice car. Enjoy.

EDIT: Don't take my warranty comment toooo seriously.. I just have this "thing" about warranties. I hate 'em...I NEVER buy any extra warranties on anything from a new car to an ipod....seems like dealers or retail outlets or whomever...always has a "way out" & ya end up paying for SOMEthing.....Learned this with my 1st new car when I bought it with Ford's BEST & MOST EXPENSIVE warranty they offered......a 1991 Ford Escort LX that BLEW UP on the highway just 2 months old...& Ford tried to BS their way out of giving me a new engine (cuz I was a young naive whippersnapper?) & gave me some lame excuse that I was SPEEDING & abusing the car cuz they found oil sprayed all the way underneath to the back of the car ...I argued it till they gave-up (I lived on the prairies & if I wanna go 160km/hr on the empty prairie roads that's MY business, they weren't the police, ..AND Ford had a the 200km/hr (or whatever it was) speedo on the thing..I can wrap that speedo if I wanted if the empty straight roads are safe...so...I wasn't gonna keep it UNDER 100km/hr just to make THEM happy. Funny, how when I brought up to the Ford serviceman... "OK then...you'll be hearing from my lawyer"......2 hrs later I got a phone call from him apologizing but all's he wanted to know was how fast I was going so he could put it in his warranty report.....I told him..."100km/per/hr, & the roads were WINDY" .....

Yea, Murphy's Law. OK - Ill unleash one last desperation bullet - Let's time travel to March 2016 - how does this classified ad sound:
12 year old 2004 325ci Vert, 76k miles, with transferable 1 year/20k warranty

2 previous owners
all service records provided
Average of just over 7k miles put on car per year.

$15k or best offer

If i got 13k back out in 3 years (with an original out the door cost from dealer of 18.6k) i wouldn't be that upset with having paid for the insurance policy.

:-)

Haha- no stick shift up my rear end Beemerdude - no worries I can take a joke.

Yes, absolutely, I'm confident and positive they would have let me walk out.

No one to blame for the piss poor decision but myself:-)

In fact, as i was signing papers. He upped his offer on the warranty (10k more miles) and about $600 less than his first attempt to get me.

I'm surprising my wife with it- will be her commuter car. Just had a wild thought - who here thinks I can parlay this thing and sell it for 25k?

If your warranty covers those things you are golden

Read the fine print - likely not covered.

Yea - Hardtop

I would have been happiest with a convertible hardtop as opposed to soft top.

Are you on drugs? I picked up my 03.5 M3 vert for $20K with 70K miles on it. You got a deal, yet not that great a deal.

An extended warranty is like insurance. People sell it because they make money. People buy it because they cannot afford a catastrophic loss. Do what makes you (and wife) happy. Don't worry about what people here say. For the record I'd go back in and tell them you changed your mind about the warranty - $3200 pays for a lot of repairs you will probably need anyway that will probably not be covered. But that is just me - this is your car - do what makes you happy.

Not likely you'll ever be able to sell it for $25k - unless you park it and never use it - even then not likely - it has the less desirable small engine - does it have sport, and premium package, xenon headlights? Manual or auto? If it was a manual, loaded M3 - then yes maybe. The reality is you got a very fair price on the car. Not a steal - not ripped off. It will likely bring you and your wife many years of happiness. Focus on being happy.

Drop the top. Go for a drive. If it is cold turn on the heat. If it is hot run the AC.

I hope she likes it

Sweet ride and good deal! Welcome!!!

I admit that when I bought my '04 330Cic from a dealer in CA back in Nov-2011 I got hosed on the extended warranty ($3500). But within a month I was have cold start issues that ended being the DME (needed to be reflashed). Unfortunately for me that extended warranty extended no further than the lies the dealership told me when I bought my Vert (what else should I expect from a Ford dealership selling a BMW - Damn you Fiesta Ford in Indio, Ca). Anyways when nothing I needed fixed was being covered I raised hell and got them to refund me every penny of my warranty.

I ended up learning to flash the DME myself with this great community and WinKPF. Now I do all my own work and I could not be happier! Look forward to chatting with you!
