your transmission needs service. could be a simple limp mode or as serious as a fried EGS.
Update the EGS and reset adaptations. This might solve the problem

No, might just be a bad battery. Don't throw money at things till you know what's wrong.

With the car on and in drive, I doubt it's a dead battery...

Could be your electrical system or transmission. Does it drive weird?

Did you take that picture while driving or idling? If the latter, look at the MPG, it should be full left when idling, rhetorically.

Can I perform the reset or am I forced to go to the Stealer? The car seems to be shifting sorta deliberate from 1st to 2nd and its also noticeable from 2nd to 3rd. It seems to be driving okay, but prior to this warning lamp, I knew that I'm in need of a refurb throttle bottle. I lost reverse and tried relacing the solenoid (TCC?). The reverse began working intermittently. I rec'd advice on the forum that my throttle body most likely needs a rebuild.

The car has 233K on it. My head gasket is going too! Need to replace stuts and springs as well. I need to drop about $2K in parts to get this thing back in shape.

Any help on resolving this warning light is greatly appreciated.

It is not a battery issue. It is a transmission issue.

That light means the transmission is asking for attention. It means nothing else.

With the money you need to replace sluts and springs, you need to add a pile for transvestite work.

You need to read the transmission fault codes.

Yea, replace the sluts and let us know if that improved your ride quality.

For the money, you may want to get a newer and fresher E46. I suggest a manual transmission.

Or you can send it to HakenTT and let him put an M3 engine and MT in it for you. Cost about $4,500, plus his labor and mark up.

My '99 has had the same light come on a couple times, the first was actually a funny story.

1. My cousin didn't believe that manual cars could turn on and off while moving (turn the ignition off, depress clutch and start again.) I told him 'I bet my automatic can even do it!' So I just put it into neutral while going 40 mph, killed the car for a second, and turned it back on. It all went fine except the trans warning light was on. I parked it and came out after the movie, and the light did not return. I was pooping my pants for the entire movie, thinking I broke the car with about 50k miles on it.

2. A couple years later, the light turned on for 1 or 2 drives, then it didn't come back.

3. A year or two after that, it was on pretty consistently for the entire summer I drove it. One day it turned off, hasn't come back in the past year or two now.

I didn't have any drivability issues whatsoever

I'll check the codes. I have a Peake Research code scanner tool.

Excuse all my typos in previous posts. Was typing hella' fast while rushing out the door. LOL@"Sluts".

I'm at a crossroad with this car ...I really love the darn thing, but will probably upgrade to a later model. I just got the wife a 530i. Was hoping to pay-off/pay-down that loan before grabbing another bimmer. I'd love to get a late model 6-series! ...but also like the sleek 330i's.

BTW, I pulled my battery and gave it slow charge. The warning light is now out...lol.

You might be right. What's your mileage? The transmission light may have also been a sign that it's time to move on to a different car.
