Coolant price

Unless I am reading this wrong, but when you buy the coolant from BMW, you mix 1 part coolant to 1 part distilled water 50/50. The price for a gallon of coolant at my dealership is $23.00. I was curious when I left the dealership so I stopped in Wally world just to see what the Prestone 50/50 gallon bottle price was, a it was $10.00. So for a savings of $1.50 why buy a none BMW product? Unless I am missing something and you should just pour the coolant from BMW straight in without mixing. It states on the side of the bottle mix it so I did.

I just could not understand the argument on the forum here as to why one should buy a none BMW coolant when the price is not that much more. If I am missing something, please tell me.

Plus a Gallon of Distilled water $0.68

You can buy concentrated coolant for the same price, but I too see your point. So in theory you can save 50%, not $1.50.

I still pay $19 for a gallon of OEM coolant that needs to be mixed. So it's really $20 for two gallons.

^^Point exactly, So why are people debating between the OEM and the generic off the shelf. 50/50 generic off the shelf is $10 at wally world, if you buy the concentrate and mix, you are just about at the same price. I do not understand that debate that was going on. Not trying to stir up old wounds.

Great point. Did not really think about that aspect. More arguing points for the BBs!

Either way, you are looking at a single meal out at a restaurant difference. The price is so negligible in this scenario, that it would never make sense to use anything other than bmw coolant. Plus it's blue, that's +10hp right there.

I use zerex but only because the closest BMW dealer to me is 50 miles away and if you order it with shipping it comes out to almost 30 dollars. From what I understand its almost the same as BMW coolant low silica and what not. I haven't seen a problem with it in the two years I've used it
