that was the brother of the guy who got killed. Why he would admit that and have it on the Washington Post is beyond me.

If something like this ever happens to someone I know, I think it will destroy me. One bad move and it's all over. What a shame.

disagree with this conclusion. if you give candy to a baby, you'd expect it to eat the candy, no? 22-yr old isn't ready to make mature decisions about speed. if he was a straight-A student, as a father I might reward the kid with a drive next to me, but he ain't taking THAT car out himself until he can afford his own.

When I got my license, my dad let me drive his car whenever I wanted(cl55) and I never did anything monumentally stupid in it, I'm still breathing. it has close to the same power output as an e60 m5, but I knew and respected how much power it has. He even asked if I wanted it for a first car, said nah that's not my style so I got a 325ci Sup.
To Sum it up, the kid was stupid and didn't respect or know the car he was driving.

Did u demonstrate some sort of behavior, eg grades at school, etc that made ur dad confident in ur judgement?

Ps. That's not a reliable indicator either; I was a straight-A student but was always extremely irresponsible with speed.

One of my top fears is getting in a bad car accident. Saw a really bad one happen what I was I'd say around 8-9 years old and it scarred me pretty good. Dude sped through a red light and t boned a mini van with kids in it. People were screaming and there was blood everywhere. I think that single event is why I'm such a cautious driver today...

Boom. There you have it. To you the consequences were more realistic and a motivating factor not to speed.

The brother is a complete idiot for bragging about doing 140mph on a public road, and also an idiot for admitting "he only sped on straightaways."

I was a straight A student in HS, excelled in undergrad, and I was only 17 when I started borrowing my old man's E36 328i auto. I nearly killed myself in it twice over the next two years. I don't I would have trusted myself with 500HP even a year ago, let alone 22. Hell I just got my E39 M5 around my 25th BDay last fall and it scares the **** out of me at high speed, and I respect it's power. This is as a 25yr old with a few close calls and very humbling incidents in my experience.

I can bet >90% of 22yr olds with no dangerous incidents to smack a dose of reality, would have any sort of clue how quickly they can get into a catastrophe with the sheer power and speed capabilities of the E60 M5.

The father was foolish to hand the keys to a high horsepower car like that to an inexperienced kid.

How much for front and rear bumpers? PM price shipped to 75229
This is one terrible accident. Poor guy and poor car. When I bought my 330 (my first car and I paid for it all) my dad said "this car is a speed machine. Fear it. Respect it. And dont be a dumbass" I do enjou some spirited driving here and there but nothing over 55 on regular roads and nothing more than 100 on highways.

mixing a young driver and these types of cars is never a good idea.

21 year old girls will like a 535i the same as they do an m5.
