2-Series Uncovered

I have to say I'm really interested and considering waiting for a 235/CLA 45 instead of getting the m3...

this retro style that bmw is getting into is just delightful... i'm not crazy about the dashboard, its not very bmw-ish, but that is a damn sharp looking car....

still have my heart set on a 435i however

I don't mind it, and I usually am more receptive when I see them in the flesh.

However, BMW expanding the range with all sorts of models (1/2/3/4/5/6/7/X1/X3/X5/X6/Zs) and all the variants within (GT, hatch, coupe etc), I can't help but think it dilutes the brand. Sure, BMWAG is a business and they're are in the industry of making money (and rightly so!), but one can't help but think that you lose a bit of that magic. Remember the 90s where all that was on offer was the 3/5/7?

If they're going to make coupe specific classes, why would they not make them look like coupes? Kinda like a brz/frs. Not like a 2 door sedan.

Call me crazy, but a 3 series used to be the pov spec model. Now there are another 2 models below that (and I know BMW is no super car), but doesn't it 'cheapen' the brand?

Yes and no because as the years go on and the models sizes are increasing, there are then gaps where the sizes they used to be lay. They are just filling those gaps back in. The circa $30k models are what will cheapen the brand though.

not to mention that BMWs are not marketed the same everywhere. They are in the upmarket class here and in NA but not necessarily in Europe I don't believe.

lol at the badge snobs. will having affordable models make the high end product less awesome? how does a 118i priced at 30K detract from a $150000 M3?

if you're buying the M3 for the snob value and not for what it can do, you're cheapening the brand

BMW needs to introduce these new variants to compete with Audi and Mercedes in each market segment. They would be foolish to sit back and not take a cut of the action.

Whoah whoah hold up there a second. We are talking about the brand here, not their cars and their capabilities. If you want to take that as being a badge snob then so be it- but fact is that BMW producing a car around 30k is cheapening it. Say for example that Ferrari said fvck it lets be cvnts and produce a mass market car and call it a ghibli and aim it at the 1 series. That would cheapen Ferrari as a brand. It's not opinion, it's fact.

It's a little bit similar to women. If a woman was to have, say a penis- then that would cheapen it right? Yet your country is obsessed with this to the point of when foreigners come to your country, they don't know if they're paying for a Ferrari or a BMW or something possibly even cheaper. But what would I know, I'm just a badge snob

Sherwin, what are you on about? Haha

Anyway in this day and age where things are constantly changing, car makers need to respond to those changes or they'll be out. As per Porsche making the Cayenne, Cayman, Boxster and now Cajun. Car makers are not there to make a few people (usually enthusiasts who never buy new cars anyway) happy, but sell as many cars as possible to as many people as possible to make the business successful.

and a fun fact for you (apologies for going off topic). when foreigners come here they know exactly what they're looking for.

badge snob and cheapening the brand? you can buy an E46 M3 for the same as a mid level camry. where's the cachet in that?
