Thoughts on the Escort Passport 8500 X50?

Hey yall I am taking a road trip to Florida from Dallas this summer and want a radar. I know there is the V1 but that's 100$ more expansive than the 8500 x50. My car came hard wired for an escort radar from the previous owner. Do any of yall use this radar? Does it work well in both the city and on the highways?
Thanks and cheers yall

If its wired for the passport it wired for the V1. Both use a phone cord. Get the v1 if you can spare the $100 difference.

You cant go wrong with either Escort, Beltronics or Valentine. I personally have a 9500ix and love it. My friend has a 8500 and likes it but wishes it had the GPS feature the 9500 has.

I have an 8500, it works great in around town and in most cities. I have done a bunch of trips from TN to FL and on every interstate along the way I get nothing but laser warnings, especially in GA and FL, so much I set my cruise control at 80 at night as soon as I hit GA, they won't even bother with 80, if I'm feeling lucky I'll set it to 85. During the day tho its very easy to spot them but still my eyesight is a lot more help than the 8500, by the time it goes off with laser I have already spotted the cruiser way before...

for long road trips nowadays with the wide use of laser guns by LEOs on most interstates, use it but maintain or increase awareness and common sense, don't solely rely on the radar detector, especially since they are useless against laser, it basically goes off after the LEO got their reading... I'm looking into a laser jammer for my long trips.

I have hardly seen laser being used in any cities tho, so its great against K and Ka radar guns used by most PDs.

Yeah that's true. I may take the gamble and pick one up but im not sure yet. The laser deficiency really is a weak point for me. Does a V1 detect lasers better?

It does not matter how well they detect laser because by the time your unit picks it up, its too late. Your best defense against laser is a set of laser jammers.

the only defense against laser might me the escort live feature where someone in front of you confirms the sighting. I wondor how many actual users there are.

my experience in Texas is that k band is used away from the big cities and easy to detect but inside dfw laser is the only thing they use.

Get laser interceptors and use something like Waze on your phone.
