HK Rattle - Speaker or Door?

Thought I'd ask this here, since you guys are the gurus audio.

I'm getting a rattle from my front mid-range speakers. I'm not sure if the speaker is rattle because too much power is going to it, or if my dealer is right and its not the speaker that's rattling but the area in the door near the speaker.

How would you test to see which scenario it is?

If the speakers are rattling, would you recommend new speakers (all 6) to be replaced?

If its not the speaker, do you suggest I keep bugging the dealer about it, or fix it myself?

thanks for any advice!

It is the door that is rattling. I have the same problem. I've been to the dealer like 3 times for. Replaced the whole door once and it still rattles. I tried sound deadening material, but it still doesnt help. It is just on the passenger side during certain low freq. I gave up trying to fix it.

same issue. it's not the speaker but the clips around it that keeps coming loose / breaks.

had the dealer replace it like 4-5 times already..

i might just open the thing up and start taping sh1t up...

its the design. the speaker is mounted to the door panel as opposed to the metal door frame...

can try putting insulation in teh door panel so it does not vibrate agains the door.

try pushing on different the door panel while it's rattling.. if that fixes it.. u'll know where to put the insulation.

If you want to test if it's the speaker or the door, take the door panel off and hold the speaker in your hand (connected). If it rattles in your hand (like mine did), it's the speaker.

So I assume you replaced the speakers since they were the ones rattling?

I had the dealership replace them under warranty. They heard the problem and replaced it with no fuss. I'm getting tired of taking my car in, though, so I'm looking into those a/d/s replacement speakers.

I'm pretty much sick of taking my car to the dealer on a weekly basis as well. So I'm thinking of replacing speakers and adding insulating material myself.

I suggest just remove the door panels. Replace speakers, and use sound damping material. I just did that. Replace all my speakers with Audiobahn speakers and used alot of damping material on the doors. Every thing sound sweet now!
