Exclamation Gas Pedal floored, car doesn't move???

Hi everyone, got a serious issue that I can't figure out.

I was helping a friend out yesterday putting his expansion tank and hoses back together on his 1999 328i...everything went well and we bleed it properly.

Now, onto the issue...when he goes to gas the pedal the car will not rev up or move at all??? Why is that? The only way the car moves if he selects 1st gear and let the transmission/engine slowly creep the car forward.

I had him try to rev the car in neutral and still nothing. I thought he was joking but when I saw his pedal to the floor then I realized..." this is f*#$ up?!?!"
LOL...but no joking...can you help me diagnose and figure out the problem? Cuz I don't have a clue.

Thanks in advance,
Benny

Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Maybe the fuel pump crapped out.

Check connection? MAF, throttle.

Any CEL?

Unplug and reconnect the connector on the throttle body??

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and reconnect??

Thanks everyone, I will stop by my friends after work. I feel he forgot to plug something back in also, but the strange thing is the car starts right up with no problems?? Only when he tries to gas it the car won't move!

Only light he says he has is the "service engine soon" light...nothing else.

Get the code read, that may give a clue as to what is happening.

Definitely left something unplugged or accidentally unplugged something. If I am not mistaken, the 328 uses a cable controlled throttle body. Take off the intake and see if you can see the wire there moving the TB. Maybe it came off or broke.

Car will still start without the throttle body. At idle, it's breathing through the ICV.

That said the 328 still has a mechanical linkage, but I agree with everyone to check the connections that may have been disturbed.

This makes a lot of sense. Also, I thought the car had an electrical throttle...didn't know it was still mechanical, which makes even more sense. The car has been sitting around all winter outside also so could be broken cable or maybe just came loose.

Thanks again everyone!

Open the hood.
Have a helper step on the gas pedal -- engine off.
Look under the hood for stuff that moves, and stuff that does not move.
Reconnect what moves to what does not move.
Close hood.

Fixed it! Turns out the throttle cable came loose.

So I carefully...without taking the throttle body off, replaced the cable and adjusted the tension on it. I guess after such a long time parked the cable just came loose... weird.

Thanks for all your help with this!

That is weird because the throttle valve needs to be turned in order to disconnect the cable, maybe someone worked on the car?
