Who here still watches TV?

I probably stopped watching television about 5 years ago and haven't looked back.

At my new place I don't even have a television or cable/satellite

Seems like its old technology. Most stuff you can download legally (Netflix) or illegally (torrents) and you watch almost instantly, no waiting, no commercials , you pick what you want to watch.

Went to a buddy's house a few days ago. Was bored and decided to see what's on tv. He had 200 channels and nothing good.

So I watched Napoleon dynamite but annoying 6 minute commercials every 15 minutes.

Not only that its very expensive. $150/month just for cable. Netflix is $8 a month and torrents are free.

I don't think i will ever get a tv again

OP, I'm kind of with you. If I want to watch a show or a movie then I just get it on netflix or from P2P. And I hardly ever just watch a show or a movie, maybe a few times a month.

However, the only way to get any sports is to have cable or satellite.

The only reason why I have tv is to watch things live (sporting events). Otherwise I just torrent things I want to watch

I hardly watch anymore except for news.

Seems like it's gaining ground:

I have the HD Complete Xfinity Triple Play. I have every single movie channel. Not because I want to watch them... but because I can.

The bill? More than your AGI

I have roommates so it's not much to split the premium package. I enjoy watching tv more than fiddling with a computer, as well.

I'm with OP, got rid of my TVs a long time ago. It's starting to be pretty common for people to have multiple computers and no television. I think they'll come back into style when they have more computer-like functionality.

The only reason I used to have 100+ channels was because of the package crap. Oh, you want that one particular channel so you can watch one show? Well, you need package X, which will also give you 50 channels that you will never watch, but we include them to make you feel better about getting butt raped by the additional fee.

Cable TV is a racket.

I don't torrent TV because the quality is always so random...some shows are great...others look like they should only be viewed on a phone. I do torrent movies but they are always a minimum of 7-10gb per movie so quality isn't an issue.

I like to watch shows on a decent sized screen...and I'd never pay $150 / month for TV. I pay $25 for basic which gives me on demand, allowing me access to shows that I don't even get in my "basic" package.....it seems weird, but it is true. For $25 a month I don't have to jerk around with dl torrents or anything related to my computer, which is completely worth it.

I'm with everyone on the no cable..but I still need a large TV and comfortable living room to stream my shows and movies from my computer. I'm sure the days of commercials are numbered but they will adapt.
