Car died while driving

So Its at the Indi shop right now. But as I was driving the car just stalled. After it stalled I tried turning the car on but it turns on for about 3 seconds and then it turns off. I dont think it could be the battery since I just replaced it last month (unless I ws sold a dead Batt) Any Idea what it could be? My best bet is the alternator, or it really is jsut a dead battery. Any other possibilties? Thanks alot guys. Happy safe motoring to you all!

Does the engine crank over normally when you turn the key? If not, your battery is likely dead. If the battery was new, then the most likely culprit would be your alternator. If the alternator stops working, then the car runs off of the battery until the battery dies. If, however, the engine cranks normally, then the problem is elsewhere, and you need to track down the usual suspects. First pull whatever codes appear of the on board computer, and see what they say. Does the car have fuel? Check the tank (the gauge may not be working properly). If so, are the injectors getting fuel? Check the fuel pump to see if it is operating. If so, check the fuel lines to make sure that there is no blockage. Is the car getting spark? Check the coil/plug packs. Good luck.

Thank you Dsilk!

Yes, the car does get a good crank sound. then the car sounds like its struggling to run then it dies. I just only hope for the best. Thank you!

Sounds like a fuel pump. They usually fail fast and I've had it leave me stranded twice (in 2 different) bimmers. When you move the key to position 2, you should hear the pump prime from under the backseat. Remove the seat cushion for a better result.

My error, it was defaulting to a non-M vehicle. Sorry about that. Your price is accurate.

I ordered it. It was the fuel pump that was the problem. Thank you E46@46!
