think if buying an e46 M3 manual

Hi guys, I will probably ask your opinions about the the advertised cars, as I am sure you guys know most about them. I myself have a tuned up E39 530i and after being on Philip island during the BMW nationals, I am looking for something with more grunt and awesome looks, my eyes came on the E46 M3 with manual transmission. Not a lot of them are around.

I love the laguna seca blue color and found this example online, but it was converted from SMG to manual. Any thoughts.

thanks guys.

^ Hi Mohamed. Yeah can probably get it cheaper than that. But LSB is awesome, and that car has the M stitch alcantara...even more awesome I'd prefer that over leather.

I think it would be worth checking out especially if it is the colour and package that you want.

If the SMG > 6MT conversion was properly done (reputable indy / dealer?) then you'll have no problems... just remember to have the subframe inspected.

Edit: and at that mileage it would be close a major service and possible valve adjustment. M3 owners can advise further...

My Ride: 2002 SMG M3
Dude I'm sorry but you'd be stupid to pay that price for a 02 m3. I just bought a 02 SMG for 14k with 96k on the dash that is in better condition than that from the 2second owner whos has had it since 2005 and was 55 years old. You can get a white coupe m3 for 25k with less than 40k on the dash in the us. have it shipped over and still have money to spare instead of pay 41k. thats the price of a used E92 M3

Check if the conversion was done with a 6SP manual box or the SMG box. If the SMG box then make sure it has the modified bell housing.

^ yeah I had a valve adjustment at inspection II. My valves were all good actually, didn't require any adjustments. You should check out Sen's M3, just for sale:

Imola Red and manual. Good combo. Has some nice aftermarket parts too.

Your import laws are not that it cost twice the price of the value of the car, smart guy.... If you import a 20k car it's not going to cost 20k, you sir are an idiot.

If it were that cheap I think you'd find a lot more imported cars here. Besides, I thought you couldn't import a car that was locally sold? So how do you import an M3 that is also sold here?

vehicles in australia or sold in there rather carryng a price tag of double or even triple in most cases of that vehicles value in any other country. think about it. if a 2002 SMG M3 cost 41k or is priced at 41k and I just told you dealerships are selling them in the US for 19-27 in the same if not better conition and private seller are selling them for 14-19k that should answer that for you.

http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invento...sting=56477976

that car is concidered above market value in the Us and it selling for 21k...

I'm astonished nobody has touched on other compliance issues such as LHD > RHD conversation and the rest.

Did you not read what I wrote that, vehicles sold there are often double if not triple the cost any where else? So you just proved your doing more responding than reading.

properstyle, cars in Aus are RHD, for it to get compliance here you need to go to something called RAWS. its an agency that needs to qualify the car to ADR (Australian design rules) standards. cost for the car to come to Australia without the conversion is 15% taxes. add the conversion rate of get new exhaust manifolds, new steering rack new dashboard, re-wiring, do the maths and after all that say you save a bit of money but when you come to resell, it cannot compete with aussie delivered cars in pricing, so there is a lot of loss. plus, to know the car your buying is not a lemon, I have to fly over to the US to inspect it and fly back. not cost effective at all.

putting all this aside, prices of cars here reflect the minimum wage. our minimum wage here is double whats in the states. plus regulations to import a car that already exists in Aus as ating has mentioned earlier, i have to live 1 year overseas to be able to bring it back here. best option is from UK.

I have looked at this avenue before hand.
