I'd been looking for an M3 in Adelaide and nothing was coming up in a manual (and in a decent colour)

I'd contemplated looking interstate but I knew if I found a suitable car and then flown there to pick it up I'd be pissed if the description did not match the car.

When I saw a trade in advertised I went to take it for a test drive and figured that whilst I wasn't 100% happy it was pretty close and the 3 month warranty would cover me for anything outstanding.

If something does turn up in a yard just remember to get everything in writing so any verbal agreement/discussions should be emailed to them to for confirmation.

Get as much service history as possible and if its been serviced at a BMW dealership they can give you (reluctantly) a copy of everything that been done to the car

I took my car to BMWise and had the pre purchase done there and also a follow up at the end of the 3 months.

I'm anal so I also took it to a gearbox specialist and Michael Mc Michaels for second opinions

Reviving this thread - anybody investigate the Laguna Seca M3? It has dropped quite a bit in price...

Any info would be great - it may be an option for me if the km's on it are legit.

Haha yes other than the ugly and worn looking interior fabric that would better suit a custom made old man lift chair it is a converted manual. I rang him about that car months ago when I first came on here. He had just dropped the price and he sounded desperate then so you could get it cheaper now I imagine. Has aftermarket stainless pipes and apparently the manual conversion was done by a reputable shop in brisbane. The thing that really turned me off was that interior. Its really hideous even though I know some people prefer it. The other black one in brisbane is probably a better buy. He sounded much less desperate and more of an enthusiast. He has multiple BMWs. And I know he is negotiable on price. I was going to buy it but I don't think I will get another car now till later in the year when I move into new house with enough garage space for all of my crap

think if buying an e46 M3 manual

You can always retrofit an interior from a later M3 - I put one from an '04 in mine with heated seats and adjustable lumbar support. It's not that hard to do and is a good project, you just have to watch eBay closely for an interior to come up.

Be keen to hear about the SMG to manual conversion. It's a Feb 02 built car hence no strut brace, but from what I can see in pics (probably not much of an indication), it looks to be okay.

As usual, best to take it to your favourite BMW specialist then run the paint depth thickness tester over it and then ask more questions.

Interior change yes its possible but the car isn't that cheap to not just buy one that has a decent leather one.... There are other decent original cars around.

I believe that black one is now sold

Main reasons i am concidering this one: Low km's, LSB (my fav colour), and manual. Will see if its still there next month when i am ready to buy...

I picked up my interior for 1200 including pillars and all door cards and sold the old one for 750 - not too expensive at all

True that, but if you loved a rarer colour like lsb it's easy to swap out the interior
