BMW M3 E46 2001 Convertible Roof Issue..........

Hi All

Just been kindly pointed into the right direction for my roof issues in this section......

Just an update.

I had a problem with the roof and when I pressed the open button, the amber light would come on and that was it. Nothing else happened.

I got an auto electrician in to have a look and now it is showing a different fault. He checked the fault codes but I am not sure he even understood himself what he was doing.

The problem now is that the roof light is just alternating flashing red now all the time. When I press either open or close, the light steady red now. Is this a new problem?

No windows come down or no action with the roof at all. Just a flashing red light.

Appreciate any advice before I look at popping it into a dealer.

Andrew

You need a shop that can read the CVM codes. If the light is blinking red then the CVM has a fault code.

Likely it is the broken wire problem in the sticky about diagnosing electrical issues.

I got it booked into CAYMAN now for diagnosis. Hopefully they can have a crack at it on Sunday.

How do you move the roof to have a look at the problem. I can open the latches by using an allen key but the roof is cant be moved by hand unless there is a way to open it. I tried lifting the back and front together and it is not moving.

^ Once the latches release, there's still more unscrewing to do in order to loosen the frame.
