BMW X5 yes or no?

I'm considering ditching my 2005 Kia Sorento for an E53 X5 3.0. The 3.0 is for a familiar engine, I don't really want a V8. The Sorento has 108,000 miles on it and is becoming a maintenance headache. I'd rather spend my time working on BMW than Kia. Anyone here with X5 experience?

4Runner or MDX, then you don't have to spend time working on your car.

+1, My brother had an 2005 X5 and it was a repair nightmare. His window doesn't go up and down and the dealer wanted over $600 to fix. He order the plastic piece for $5 online and spend the whole day removing the door and fixed it himself. That is just one of the many problems he had. He ended up trading it before it got worse. He drives a 2010 MDX now. I had a 2003 MDX which we sold to my sister in law, it has over 115K miles and it's still running perfect. So impressed with the MDX, we currently drive a 2009 MDX.

My advice would be to get the most simple X5 you can get, no air ride etc, and add some sport wheels to it afterwards if you want to improve the look.

I'm thinking there probably aren't many people that own or have owned both Kia and BMW SUVs.

I have an e70. The E53 just looks really, really old to me.

X5's are nice, though. Ours is comfortable, even on the stock 20"s.

BMW X5 or Jeep Cherokee .. If you need more space get the Jeep.

Clearly if you can afford it, E70 would be a LOT better than E53.

That's personal preference. I hear the 4.8is is way more fun than any E70 besides the X5M.

My friend had an X5 3.0. They have E46 like issues- except for some reason their CCV issues seem to be worse.

I'd say expect the same amount of problems with an X5 3.0 as with an E46.

You are telling me the Kia is better than a MDX? The 2009 MDX was the best handling SUV, beating out the X5. Don't believe it, google it. I assume you are looking for used since you are interested in the E53. Plus the MDX has two extra seats in the back if you need to bring extra kids.

The autos are bad on these just like the e46. Even worse since they carry more weight and may have towed. They do have 3.0 5spd manuals though. Hard to find, but more reliable.
