Your cardiovascular system and musculature would be TAXED! It's the same principle. More work equates to physiological adaptation. That's why fire fighters train stairs while wearing turnouts, breathing apparatuses and hose. Their systems need to be able to handle the stress. When you retain a 135 lb.+ barbell on your shoulders, your legs are effectively sustaining your body weight PLUS that 135 lbs. (...so if you're a 180 lb. guy, that's the weight bearing stress of a 315 lb. person over a prolonged period of time) all while performing intermittent action (..i.e...squatting for reps).
I didn't know you liked crossfit that much

It's similar to why people do Railroads on the leg press. The only time I'll ever go high rep is with legs.

Anyone watch this series?

Realized that I'm pretty quad dominant after glancing at the vids. Never really messed with my stance or form as squats have always felt somewhat natural to me, but going to try some of the stance pointers to put more emphasis on my hams.

I usually use a somewhat narrow stance and toes straight, but trying slightly wider with feet slightly turned out. According to the vid (part 2), this should let me push my knees out more and utilize the entire hip. In the past, I feel like I would be more on my toes on some reps as the weight would feel lighter (more emphasis on my quads).

Tried this yesterday and was able to put up the same weight. Only noticed a difference with my drop set of 225 at the end. Usually can rep it out really easy and get about 10 before I die, but this way I struggled from the beginning of the set. Guess I couldn't cheat it up with my quads when I get fatigued.

Because Steve likes to show off how strong and muscular he is compared to everyone else!

Watched this today and it only reinforced the fact that my strength coach in high school new his **** when he taught me how to squat 100 years ago. Now all I need is my ankle to be 100% so I can get after it for real.
