Vandalized!

Ok so this is more of a rant than anything productive but I'm sure some of you guys can commiserate with me on this... So I get off my commuter train last night and walk out to where my car was parked to find that some crackhead had RIPPED THE WINDOW OUT of the driver's door. Must've stuck a shim under the seal and snapped it off. Found it laying next to the bumper in front of the car (which looked like it had been kicked in). They then proceeded to ransack the interior and break open the glove box (which was locked). I had nothing of value in the car (to a crackhead at least), and the only thing missing are two one dollar bills. That's it.

All in all, this'll end up costing me like 300 bucks and a months worth of repairs at the body shop (oh, because thy also put a few nice dents and scratches along the driver's side too). Hope it was worth the two bucks, pal.

Truth is, it's really no easier to get into a vert than a hard top. Unless you're gonna climb through the cut up top, somehow, you still have to break the window to open/unlock the door. Besides, you got bart cops almost everywhere!

The problem is vandals and if they're out to damage your car, those a**holes are gonna do it, one way or another.

Update on the repairs... Got the estimate from my insurance company (who has been surprisingly good to deal with through ll of this). Drumroll please...

$8,900 in parts and labor. Holy crap. I reviewed the order sheet and it all pretty much adds up. I can't even believe that it amounts to all this after a lousy two bucks. On the plus side, they're repainting the ENTIRE CAR. Score.

Get LSB blue color or some unique color and do post up pics when it comes out. By the way, where are you getting the work done.

I'm surprised they are fixing it, that's gotta be close to book value.

I know, I thought about changing it but I reeeeelly like the black sapphire metallic. The body shop is in Providence, RI- providence auto body. Pretty good experience with them so far. As for the insurance, I always try to over-insure myself in both home and auto for situations just like this- 45 bucks a day rental car stipend and 300 deductible for full coverage, liability, etc. I figure with as much as I've paid them over the years they can do me a solid once in a while when things to awry.

Update: got the car back this morning... Looks brand new! They took care of a few other dents and dings, and painted the thing the whole way around. New dash, window regulators (which were crap to begin with... score) and even a fresh battery. So there is some good to come out of this whole ordeal i suppose.

Now I just need to do something about those crappy 10 year old wheels...
