SMG Transmission Issue

I have a weird transmission situation with my 2005 M3 Vert SMG that I was unable to find any one else having while searching the forum.

Just took the car out of winter storage a couple weeks ago (battery removed and on a battery tender all winter inside).

In the last week or so a couple times while driving in manual mode in say 3rd or 4th gear it dropped down to 1st or 2nd. The transmission light now consistently comes on and I can't put the car in automatic mode. Even if I can initially it eventually goes into manual mode and the transmission light comes back on and I'm unable to put it back in auto mode while driving...it simply downshifts to 1st or 2nd gear if I try by pushing the shifter to the right.

I did run the battery down this past weekend but charged it and it seems to be fine. I replaced the salmon relay and have done an SMG reset a couple times but the problem repeats itself.

It drives completely fine in manual mode with no hiccups.

Any thoughts?

And I will say that when multi-tasking auto is handy for those 1-2 minutes or when stuck in traffic.
