I've got an Escort 8500ci. Radar unit is mounted in the front bumper, and display/controller is mounted on the trim above the radio. I didn't want a unit on my windshield as I was afraid of it getting stolen.

Radar antenna is mounted underneath the drivers side fog light, not visible. Bumper is plastic so it doesn't affect the range.

Hey Snik, I need to show you my setup. Easy to hide here in VA but not too complicated to install. I put my V1 between the passenger seat headrest and the seat. Just lowered the headrest down to make it snug. Good forward and rear visibility. I have the V1 remote unit in my ashtray. It's a clean install but easily removable to move to another car. Only drawback is reduced forward sensitivity when there is a passenger. I'm by myself in the car 80% of the time so it's better than no detector at all.

I'll snap and post some picts tomorrow.

When you move the seatback forward for rear access, does the headrest automatically lowering want to smoosh your V1?

Radarmirror has an install for the rear head rest, but that's not possible with our roll bar rear headrests in our convertibles.

I've thought of doing the same in the front passenger seat headrest, but haven't had a chance to tear it apart yet.

Problem with the remote units is that the range is not that good (testing shows that). The STI-R Plus is great but it's very buggy and misses alerts.

The remote for the V1 only moves the alerts to another location. The main unit still does all of the detecting so no loss of range.

The headrest only lowers when you start to move the seat to the nearly full forward position (to prevent hitting the windshield). I've had that happen with the V1 in there a couple of times and nothing bad happened. I guess because there's enough padding between the top of the seat and the bottom of the headrest. I try not to move it forward enough for that to happen but it does every now and then...no harm so far.

Here are some hasty picts of the V1 in my vert. Ignore the fact that I haven't cleaned the pollen yet!

My 8500ci is better than the 8500xi I had previously. I've had a redline and V1 as well and to be honest, don't notice too much of a difference between all of them. I haven't had an encounter with the 8500ci where I feel as though I would have had an earlier warning with a better detector, nor that I even needed an earlier warning. Just my $.02.
