My Ride: 2015 Z06 & 2004 325i
Kronix 2004 325i Build Thread

New member, and also new to the BMW scene, but definitely not new to build threads. I've done my Corvettes (my 2015 was the first 10 second 1/4 mile car on the East Coast) on various Vette forums, a 2011 Camaro ZLX on the Camaro5 forum (also featured in Camaro Performers & GM High Tech Performance Magazines, as well as on display indoors at the 2013 GM Nationals in Carlisle, PA), and my Tahoe (On display at the 2012 SEMA show in Vegas) on one of the GM truck sites (it's been a while & I just sold it)

My Garage:
2016 C7 Chevy Corvette Stingray Z06 (1025 RWHP/1010 RWTQ)

Twin Turbos

2008 C6 Chevy Corvette Z06 (837 RWHP/822 RWTQ)

Single Blower

2011 Chevy Camaro ZLX 1 of 1 (725 RWHP/760 RWTQ) SOLD

2007 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Full Custom (475 RWHP/560 RWTQ) SOLD

So I figure since I've modded every car I've owned over the last 30 years, why not start a thread, and document it. Hopefully, I'll get some feedback & ideas, as I've already gotten a lot of help from BE46N in the Tire Rack section.

So as the title states, I just purchased a 2004 1 owner, 325i sedan with 64,000 miles on it. I got the owner down to $5K, so I think I got a pretty good price considering it really only needs tires in the next couple months, and he just serviced it and replaced plugs and bushings.

Here it is as I bought it it:

What I've purchased so far:
Front window Galaxie Ceramic tint 20%
K&N Performance Intake Kit (Going in tomorrow)
Kenwood KDCX700 CD Receiver with HD/Satellite Radio & Bluetooth(Being installed tomorrow)
Sirius/XM Tuner w/2.0

Matte Black Front Grille Inserts

Auto Carbon Carbon Fiber Pillar Trim (Will install tomorrow)
Matte Black Shadow 325i Emblems (Will install tomorrow)
New Tan Cupholder (Old one was a little beat)

18" x 8.5 Beyern "Mesh" wheels (Still deciding on tires, I have a few days before rims get here. But going 225/ZR40)

Carbon Fiber "D-Type" Rear Spoiler (Waiting for it to arrive)

That's everything in the 10 days I've owned it.

Future plans include:
Less Restrictive Exhaust- Suggestions welcomed. I really don't want to drop big money on this car, as I already have about $200K sitting in the garage in 2 Vettes.
Lowering Springs
Angel Eye Headlights
Clear Side Markers
LED Rear Tail Lights
ECS Carbon Fiber Strut Tower Brace

Considering:
Different front & rear bumpers & side skirts

That's what I have so far on my list. As I mentioned, I'm new to the BMW scene, and spend a lot of time checking out all the great rides here & getting ideas. So please feel free to make suggestions & I look forward to being a productive member of this awesome forum!

Thanks & More updates to come as things get added!

Got the Kenwood head unit installed, so now I can finally listen to SiriusXM, my iPhone music library & have Bluetooth. Great upgrade over the ancient OEM head unit!

Also put on the K & N intake, 30 minutes and a couple more ponies, definitely feels more responsive & torquey as well! Now I need to decide on what route I want to take for exhaust, headers & back, or just cat-back. Feel free to give opinions or advice, it would help to hear first hand experience.

Today I'll add the carbon fiber B-Pillar & rear window strip overlay & my CF rear spoiler is due here tomorrow.

The funny thing is this was just supported to be a DD, and wanting something reliable & basic....I guess once a car builder, stock is never an option anymore!

My Ride: is not yet fast.
Okay to answer your question in the tire rack thread, you can install them yourself, but it all depends whether or not the underbody is rusty. If it isn't, then the exhaust flange bolts shouldn't be too much of a pain. But if it is, it's best to go to a shop

Thanks iowna, appreciate the response. I checked out the exhaust flanges when we had it on the lift at the tire shop. You think those bolts would loosen up with some penetrator? I guess you can never tell until you start cranking.

I notice handling, cornering & steering response with the new 18" x 8.5" Beyern "Mesh" wheels & BFG G-Force Comp-2 A/S tires is night & day, compared to the stock 16" & 205/55s...Duh! Steering is lighter & much more responsive, and the BFGs handled great in the rain also.

I'll have better pictures, just been a little wet the past couple. I have on the way an OEM Windshield Wiper Cowl, along with new headlight trim, to replace the cracked, dry rubber. I'd like to find something new for the headlights this weekend, either bright white HID bulbs & get clear corners or angel eyes. I'm going to smoke the rear lights with Plasti-Dip Smoke I had laying around. Good thing with PD, you can always remove it.

I wanted to install the carbon fiber rear spoiler, but not sure if the weather will cooperate, so that may have to wait till next week.

Question if anyone has any insight: The carbon fiber spoiler came with 2 strips of 3M double sided tape & I've installed many rear spoilers on my Vettes & Camaros, but they have always bolted down onto the trunk lid. I was thinking of also using Auto/Marine clear silicone and running a bead around it. Can I trust just the 3M tape? What have you done or tried?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks Austin, appreciate the response! I'll go with the 3M tape since that seems to be the norm. Although I don't think I could get away with just the tape on my Vettes though!

Thank you Speedfreaks. appreciate your response, and hope to keep you entertained! Feel free to lend any knowledge you might want to share. I did my due diligence when researching these BMWs, because I've always been a Chevy guy. When I found this E46 that was owned by a meticulous, well-off owner, and had it checked out, all signs pointed to a buy. And since I always have to improve on a good thing, it's become fun modding a vehicle other than a Corvette or Tahoe.

I picked up a carbon fiber strut bar from ECS Tuning, I have to say it's a really well made, light piece and it looks great! Also got lower windshield trim piece as well as headlight term pieces, since the rubber around those parts were showing their age. Finally, a pair of clear side markers. I'll also be swapping out the bulbs in the headlights to a nice white, I think Angel Eyes may be down the road. I plan to install all & the carbon fiber rear spoiler this weekend, then a nice wax job. So I should have some nice pics to post. It'll be interesting to see the before & afters.

Yesterday I installed the ECS Carbon Fiber Strut Tower Bar, the Windshield Lower Cowl, and headlight trim pieces. I must admit trying to remove the wipers after being on there for 12 years wasn't an easy task until I ran to the auto shop and picked up a Tie-Rod Puller. That made the job so much quicker! After removing the old, weather beaten, dried our rubber trim, I thoroughly cleaned all areas inside, you'd be amazed at what gets in there! A hand-held high power blower worked great.

The new Windshield cowl came with all the clips, and fit perfectly and if it wasn't for the delay in removing the wipers, probably could've taken 15 minutes instead of an hour.

The ECS Carbon Fiber Strut Tower Bar (Black) is really simple to install, and it's extremely good quality. It also prevents mushrooming of the tower & lucky for me this car was pampered it's entire life, and there were no previous signs of any mushrooming, or neglect for that matter! I took the car out on a nice winding section of road, and I noticed much more responsive steering, less body roll from side to side, and a tighter ride. I definitely recommend it, if you like aggressive driving and being more in tune with the road.

I didn't take any pics of the headlight trim, but it now looks brand new, and I picked up some new bulbs to install, as well as some new smoked corner markers from eBay. They should go nicely with the smoked side indicators I'm installing this weekend. Washed the car today, and I plan on doing the carbon fiber rear spoiler & smoked side indicator lights tomorrow. Also going to put the car up on my Race Ramps, and start planning the header-exhaust modifications.

Here's a few shots of under hood with the new strut brace & cowl.

Thanks again for checking out my build thread, feel free to post comments or suggestions, as I'm still learning the nuances of BMWs. They're a big difference from my Corvettes, but I dig it!

LS swap this sedan. That is all.

Kidding. With what you've done to your other cars, I have no doubt this sedan will turn out really nice.

Thank you for the compliment lamsv, you know the funny thing is I actually thought the same thing yesterday while working under the hood! But that would entail a whole lot more than swapping the engine! Can you imagine!

I've owned quite a few cars in my lifetime and I have to admit that nothing sounds or drives like the C7 Z06. I literally have prema-grin whenever I drive it! Thanks for checking in on my thread! I have quite a few changes in store for the E46, so check back!

I installed some new front side markers (Turn Signal) yesterday, and really like the way it changed the appearance with this simple piece! It's classified as clear smoke with black trim, using the stock bulb.
