I was a member of the NRA for years... Like 15 years. I didn't renew when Wayne LaPierre became the VP. He's a DB of the highest order and has brought the NRA down from what it was to what it is now... Trotting out a bunch of losers that totally alienate the other side of the conversation.

The liberals all think I am conservative and the conservatives all say I'm a liberal... I am both and I think I represent a large cross-section of the USA. I have voted GOP/Dem probably equally down the line through the years. I vote for what I think my country needs at the time. Not for who will NOT tax me... Not for who will protect my gun rights... Not for abortion issues. Who is the better to run the country. Unfortunately... The slate on either side has been severely lacking in recent memory.

The NRA should realize that there needs to be some changes in the current way we sell guns. They appear to be afraid that if they give in on one item that the government will be coming to take our guns. I don't think that will ever happen in our lifetimes. There are hundred of millions of guns out there... They will never get them all.... They won't even get most of them! By trotting out these losers at the convention they crystalize how average people look at the NRA as a bunch of gun nuts with no common sense.

I own a lot of guns and I have a lot of ammo stored in my shop. I enjoy shooting at the range when I can. I have purchased two rifles and one handgun (That I am still waiting to take possession of 3 months later!) in the past 3 months. I would love to join the NRA but cannot support what it has become.

So there's a company that sells a product I like. And an organization that lobbies to protect that product.

They'd better not ever fvcking get together on anything.

Yeah, like, we need background checks at gun shows and online!!! And it should be a crime to buy a gun for someone else! And convicted felons should not be allowed to buy guns!

I too am a member. The right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law is very important to me. But clearly only in suits at common law where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars

Who's concerned? I laugh at the mindless drones who believe the NRA's hysteria. It's a classic case of American capitalism.

Invent the need and blame it on someone else.

Sell the need and blame it on someone else.

Laugh all the way to the bank.

Marketing 101.

I agree with you 100%... But here's what I don't get... Maybe it is a state by state issue.

I bought my last 2 handguns online. The last one had to be shipped to an FFL in my state. I shoot at Freestate Gun Range in White Marsh, MD... I can go and shoot the gun but I cannot bring it home until I pass the 7 day background check implemented by the state of MD. That 7 day wait has turned into 3 months. I am a little torqued I have to wait that long, but I get it... I also had to take an online hand gun ownership test and bring the results to the gun shop.

When I was there doing the paperwork I was talking to a guy who had just bought a .45 Colt at a gun show... He had to wait too. He couldn't just walk away with it. He was told the wait would be around 3 months.

So where are all these online and gun show buyers just walking away with a gun without a background check? I know that private transactions are hard, if not impossible, to monitor... But from what I have seen they are doing their jobs. Just like all things... I am sure they could be doing it better.

Convicted felons being barred from owning guns is just good sense. The same with straw purchases. When I was doing my paperwork I asked the guy about this and how many felons he has caught. He says several per month! Sometimes the police need to be called because of what they dig up. But if I was a convicted felon, the LAST place I would buy a gun would be in a gun store! But I guess at that intelligence level... We know why they are convicted felons!

It's the fact that your state puts extra unnecessary steps into the process.

In Virginia, the longest part of the process is haggling for a good deal. An online background check takes as long as it takes for the person behind the counter to input the information and hit submit.

I am hoping to be able to move back to VA in the next years or so... I'd like to move to the Culpeper area somewhere.... Get some land and build a house.

I miss it. I lived there from 1965 to 2001 and then took a promotion that required a move to MD...

When you want to move, let me know. I've got a good real estate agent.
