My M&P AR15 Sport was $599 delivered before all the madness started. It works well for me. Shooting beat up military AR/M-16 for over 20 years makes the M&P feel awesome. Just my opinion. An AR is just a platform.

It's even nicer to have them talk loads about how awesome their semi-auto gun is and then to say "that's cool. I have an m16.". That's the real fun

But to be honest, I don't think they command much of a premium over brands of similar quality. BCM, DD, Noveske, Larue, KAC, LWRC...all those weapons are high quality and command high prices, some of hem costing hundreds more than a comparable colt.

Ohh and Colt isn't the OG; that honor belongs to Armalite.

Ask this kid. He may or may not be a Colt fanboy.

RE: Colt
Colts are actually pretty reasonably priced. The problem is the cost of the individual components. That's where people get hosed. I would have no problem using Colt parts, but many of their components like the BCG and LPK are significantly more expensive than other places that have quality on par with Colt.
Qft. No kidding...colt LPKs are easily double that of others.

I'm not bashful. I'm definitely a colt fanboy. Others prefer Noveske, Larue, BCM, DD, LMT...give me a pony any day. Not that I don't love the others, but I'll rock a colt all day long

I'm a LMT guy myself even though I havent owned one in a while. I do have 3 colts, a colt m16, a stag, a anderson arms, a bushmaster, and a surplus ammo (gave them away for my wedding, kept one for myself)....

The others "will do" but the colts run the best and generally are more accurate but what do I know about the subject.

I need to snap a fresh photo of my colt SBR, its beat to ^&*(

BCM has served me well, but I would be just as happy with a Daniel Defense.

I would also include LMT, LaRue and KAC into my realm of companies I like. My first AR was a full rifle, but after that I haven't bought a complete one since. My next AR will likely be a complete rifle, and will likely be an LMT.
After that I don't anticipate buying another full rifle. Who knows...

If I had to pick one lone brand though, I would probably be a Noveske guy.

Ohh yeah, no question on the AAC thing...

But you're right, I do collect other parts. If I had to go to one company exclusively though, it would still be Colt I think.

I don't think he can have them in MN. He gets to shoot more awesome stuff through the PD anyway though.

Help me understand why colt AR's get such a premium?

If I lived in a state that had class 3. I'd have a mini gun right now.
