Dyno tuned the 323i what do you guys think?

Recently had the 323i dyno tuned to see if I could get some more power out of it. Here's the results.

Car: 1999 323i sedan 5mt 191,000 miles
Engine: M52tuB25
Mods: Dinan CF long tube CAI, Headers, no cats, custom exhaust (stock 1st res, 3" mid pipe, no 2nd res, borla xs muffler) Dyno tune.
Dyno: Dyno Dynamics
Horsepower: 182.4 WHP
Torque: 170 or so at the wheels.

The guy tuning my car says the dyno dynamics dyno reads lower than a dynojet. Which makes sense as I was keeping up with stock or lightly modified 330i's before the tune and I completely walked my friends 325i on the way home with similar mods...

Here's the dyno sheets. What do you think? Good numbers for a 323i with almost 200k lolClick image for larger version

Yes, excellent numbers.

Especially since your dynoing on a Dynodynamics dyno. I would guess that your 323i would pull evenly against most 330i's.

I'm wondering if I should do the m54 intake manifold swap, and if it will be worth all the trouble...and if gains will be good.

I may swap my diff from a 3.07 to a 3.23 if I can find one. 3.46 is too much for highway driving I do.

I'm not sold on it, but Iceman00 is your best source on this.

3.07 to 3.23 is a mere 5.4%, what size tires do you run ? You can probably get the 5.4% with a different tire.

I'd spray it with a progressive 75hp shot of nitrous at this point, if you need help with this just ask.

Nitrous worries me at 191,000 miles.

Also I run goodyear eagle gt 235/40/17's all around.

Re: Dyno tuned the 323i what do you guys think?

B30 manifold swap...can't say enough good things about it. I have an adapter you can have as I'm in the process of finishing my MS43 swap.

All you need is a manifold, proper DISA, and an adapter to mount the cable-actuated throttle body. The top end is amazing and I'd say a good 10 whp.

Tires first: If you dropped down to a 215/40-17 your new gear ratio would be exactly like a 3.15 diff ratio. Right now on a 235/40 your turning 2960 rpm's at 70 mph, on a 215/40 that jumps to 3039 rpm at 70 mph. That's the same as installing a 3.15 diff. The Goodyear Eagle GT is a fine "general everyday tire", and I'm glad you don't have an ultra high performance tire for the sake of this conversation. So to make up what you would lose with less tire tread (tread width) you'd want an extra high performance tire like the Dunlop Direzza ZII. A tire like this would not only make up for what you lost in tire width, but would actually exceed your current Eagle GT's performance curve.

Nitrous: If your current motors leak down and compression numbers are good, well so is your motor. At 182 hp, you've got 30.33 hp per cylinder. Adding a "progressive" 50 hp shot would be 8.33 hp per cylinder extra, adding a 75 hp shot would be 12.5 hp per cyl. extra. So as long as your motor is in good health, there's no reason why a 50 or 75 hp progressively controlled wet shot would be a problem. It simply is the most cost effective hp adder you can buy.

This is a very interesting Nitrous Express video, it's short, educational, and fun.

Enjoy.
