with gas so cheap, all research and production went into ic.

elec motor is more simple. no more oil changes. less moving parts. brakes last longer. hell, you could get an induction charger and never even have to plug it in

It's all in the details, I guess. The Versa just looks like a regular old hatchback to me. The Leaf has that weird, swoopy rear end with bizarre taillights.

It's all personal preference, of course. My personal preferences are against the spacey look of the electric cars I have seen up until the Tesla S.

None of those brands have decided to put resources toward building a luxury oriented $60-100k electric sports sedan.

Or a sporty roadster for that matter.

Mmm, ok not advantages. How about fewer negatives?

My point is that 50 years ago the number of electric fill stations was tiny, now just about every yuppie parking lot has charging stations.

I also think its only recently that electricity can be produced with significantly cleaner sources.

Sat in the Tesla Model S in their store here and I was very impressed. Car is beautiful in person and the materials used in the interior are pretty top notch. Very high quality feel throughout and quite powerful in what it can do both in bells and whistles and in raw performance. The model I was in was boasting over 400 HP and acceleration times that matched or beat Porsches.

I don't think I've seen a charge station yet. I don't look out for them much but still. How long does it take to recharge one of these cars.

Saw a model S at school (community college) the other day. Had to do a double take.

I'd root for them a lot more if they didn't take taxpayer money.

Half hour gets you half full, good for 150 miles or so. To top off the remaining 50% takes a lot longer, another 2-4 hours depending on charger.

They only lost a point because it's not known how well the batteries will hold up. Tesla will release a ~$30,000 car in a few years. Glad to see an American car company doing well.
