I have my car nice and clean inside and out, but now I want to attack the engine bay..

There is lots of dirt and sludge on the underneath of the engine and I want to clean it all off so I can properly check for any oil leaks.

How do you guys clean your engine parts?
Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Is using a power hose out of the question?

Cheers

DB

Steam Cleaning is the best, unless you know where not to spray with water, for engine bay use a degreaser i think they tell you where not to put it, if you look at page 54 of this thread post #1068 Paul has shown where he wrapped when he degreased, so that will help you.

Ill have a look at that, thanks

EDIT: Had a look at that, good to know and will come in handy when im cleaning What im looking for atm is info on cleaning underneath the engine, I cant seem to find anything about the underneath, other than 'use degreaser'. I kinda figured that bit on my own lol, but is there any parts that need to be protected before I start spraying?

Underneath would prob be starter solonoid near the manifold, however if you leave the car running u should be fine, just keep away from that and alternator mate.

Its silver and I dunno mate, its still up for sale. I just got bored and thought I'd re-do the bodywork then re-spray it a different colour.

Ha do u do Bmw meets?
