Hi. My name is Joe, and I want to start my own business. I make $7.85 per hour, but I'm a hard worker and a really good guy. Will you lend me $2000?

It depends on Joe's business plan. Does he have other interested investors? What percent stake do I get in the company? Does Joe have the right to purchase back said stake at a later point in time?

Business plan?

He'll come up with that after he figures out how to pay his rent and get some food.

you selfish capitalist! give him a hand out already! he's honestly a good guy with no idea how to better himself, but raising his wages or given him free money will magically solve his problems

I made over minimum wage (today's wage) delivering Pizza in 1994. Anyone can make over minimum wage, stop coddling career losers.

Joe's parents didn't give him a car.

Joe is too busy thinking about how to pay his bills to worry about actually doing something to pay his bills.

Exactly. I think I worked one minimum wage like job. It was at St. Louis Bread Co. or what some of you yuppies call "Panera." I earned $7.50 an hour in 2000/2001 and it was such a miserable job that it motivated me to look elsewhere. I landed a job at a local car wash making what I made at Panera, but with tips.

And before Lair pipes up about my mom driving me to my job, I took the city bus.

Then Joe is an idiot who doesn't deserve more than what he has. It's Joe's responsibility as an adult to take care of himself and find his own path to financial success if he wants financial success in the future. That is not the responsibility of the government or employers.

Newsflash: People EARN their pay, they don't DESERVE anything they don't earn.

He said, as he admired the degree his parents paid for.

I'd love to see some of you start out from scratch. No mummy/daddy/grampy to feed you, house you, pay your way or otherwise hook you up. Most of you would fall flat on your faces. You wouldn't even know where to start if you hadn't been coddled your entire lives.

I'm sure most people would (I most likely would have), but what does that have to do with Walmart being forced to pay higher hourly wages?

And I have to ask, did you grow up like Tarzan out in the wild with no parents?
