So lets examine your logic....

Someone working at walmart doesn't have a choice but to work at walmart because there are no other options....

now lets remove walmart from the formula....what option are they left with exactly? No job at all? Lets recap...

Working at walmart = Terrible.
Conditions are horrible, but can't leave because no other jobs said worker can get.

Solution? Eliminate walmart = improved situation.

How does this make ANY sense?

This place cracks me up. Are you guys like this in real ife or does the internet make folks really take on a different persona?

If so, I vote to have a round table discussion offline in real life amongst the regulars here.

No one is forcing these people to work at Walmart. There are plenty of other job opportunities in a large metropolitan area. What they may find out is that the market isn't willing to pay unskilled labor above minimum wage. Shocking.

I'm very curious to know if Lair is like this IRL or if he's continuously trolling. He's positively the most irritating poster on this forum...no one can possibly be this out of touch with reality.

i very rarely get into discussions involving politics , race , and religion IRL. once you take those topics out of the equation i bet i would get along with every single member on here with no problems. each side has enough evidence to convince the other why they're right.

I think you have to understand what Walmart does and how it does it to really get into the nitty gritty of why it's opposing this new proposal. In order to give people what they want as cheaply as they want they have to work within tight tolerances when it comes to paying for anything. It's no different to outsourcing work to the Far East, except part of it is done in the US. It capitalism, pure and simple. As many have said, you can chose to vote with your feet and shop elsewhere, but the fact that Walmart is the world's bigest retailer means that the majority of people just don't give a **** as long as their stuff is cheap. I'd recommend "The Wal Mart Effect" by Charles Fishman as a great way to understand how the business works. Some good stuff (and some fairly depressing stuff) in there.

If you want it badly enough, you've got to do something about it. Yes, there will be those of us more fortunate with the leg up we received, but it must still be possible to "make it" in the US? I know that social mobilty is getting much worse in the US, but the stories of immigrant families in this thread making something of their lives can't mean the good life is cut off from the huddled masses, surely?

I think this is a good Idea - what are they going to do - stop business in the state and LOSE money? I'm all for forcing business to pick up the slack, and stop having tax payers subsidizes their workers.

People should have higher ambitions in life...and not slack off and complain. Sorry, not every job is comparable and thus cannot be compensated as such. Suck it up and quit your bitchin'.
